980 Looks like an excellent deck and I compared it with the Alpine 9861 that I wanted but Alpine doesn't have a nice EQ or crossovers or bluetoorh and it's more expensive. I had a premier with OEL before for a few years and liked it a lot. Sold it with my last car about a year ago because the car had to go and it was one of the selling features.

I am looking into purchasing this deck and I have DLS UP6 components. Why would the 880 be better than 980?

I'll be running all DLS this year (once I can get my amps, thanks Kankar!!)

a better option than the onboard processing would be to get the 880, and something like an alpine APX-H700 or APX H-701 and controller. much more flexibility and much more powerful.

Since you asked for opinions, I think the pioneers are really ugly. But you know what opinions are like, everybody has one.
Seriously, I haven't gotten over my Pioneer head unit and CD changers problems from 8 years ago, so i still wouldn't buy one. Once bitten, etc.
I have an 8 year old apline deck and CD changer that still work. That was the upgrade from the pioneer that went byebye.

for the same reason I said. if the 980 is warmer sounding, then it probly won't mate well with the DLS tweeters, DLS tweeters tend to be pretty warm sounding, which is great because they don't get harsh, and they don't sound bad at high volume like some other speakers. personally, if you want high sound quality, there's no compromise in HU's, get the alpine and the H701 brain, and you'll be able to tweak till your heart's content.
