I'd check with Pioneer to make sure, but from what I've learned over the last week or so is that Apple hasn't given rights to too many companies as yet to access their digital stream from the dock connector. Apparently their are specific protocols or codes that have to be used to access the digital stream before the Ipod dac. I know Wadia audio has been given the rights for the home audio market, and Alpine so far for Car audio. Maybe they have already done the same thing in Europe with Pioneer?? Once accessed though, it will yield a perfect bit for bit copy of the track...assuming wav or lossless.

^^ well thats basically what pioneer seems to be touting.

"Digital Direct of iPod Music
The DEX-P99RS features a high-end first: a direct digital bit pipe from the iPod/iPhone to the DSP and DAC. What does this mean? For the first time, you can use an iPod as source material, without sacrificing sound quality.

The key is using Apple Lossless (ALAC) to "rip" all of your music. The result is identical to the same output from an audio CD - but you can store your entire music library on the iPod, instead of just a single album!"

"DEX-P99RS
Reference Series CD Tuner with Digital DSP and USB Port with Digital Direct Signal Transmission"

so who knows.

I FOUND THIS ON THE p99'S SITE AS WELL:

The DEX-P99RS also offers versatile connections. A wide range of audio players can be connected via the direct USB (cable supplied) input. The USB connection is connected straight with the DSP section, providing a better sound quality than regular USB head units, making it possible to play high quality lossless audio from you USB device along with a wide range of iPod models and the iPhone using the optional cable (CD-IB10II).

SO, IT LOOKS LIKE THEY HAVE THE RIGHTS FROM APPLE AS WELL...SWEET!

also any ipods from september 2005 (first gen ipod nano) and on are compatible

jstoner22 02-14-2010 01:40 PM

so it sounds like you can either use the ipod with its normal connector through the usb port like any other device, or you can have the optional cable to achieve the direct digital.

lpchouinard - do you have this cable listed on the pioneer site? or simply running through the supplied usb port?

this would make sense as to why the eq would still work as well would it not?

jstoner22 02-14-2010 01:54 PM

n/m you already stated you use the CDIU50 not the CD-IB10II

jstoner22 02-17-2010 09:12 AM

no price yet. but it has finally made its way onto pioneers canadian website.

jstoner22 02-17-2010 09:24 AM

ya that pretty much sums it up.

* just a note. the eq should NOT work when an ipod is hookeup. ....well according to the p99 manual it shouldn't anyways.
