And they fit perfectly in the rear speaker opening in my 87 Trans Am.

Very true! A good 6x9 can sound as good or better than many components. My 6x9's along with my front comps deliver god full range sound without the sub (when I turn off the hp crossover to them). I can actually live without the sub for a while...try that with typical 5 or 6" comp!
