I suspect it's the same dc/dc converter as the alpine because mine has the same warning on it.
It says to keep it away from your radio, antenna etc., because it is a switching power supply and causes electrical noise.

I buried it in the dash, hasn't been a problem.

 

I'm sure it's the DC/DC converter.....it looks similar to the one on my Eclipse 8053. My manual also says the same about keeping it away from stuff because of interference/noise.
