Well, when I finally decide to order my 10s and get rid of my bulky 12s.... I want to build a nice little SQ system. I want it for show as well, the way I'm be building it into my trunk will be similar to this....

Ever since I saw this, I fell in love. With the enclosure as is, I can retain my spare, and keep a nice clean show look. Depending on my subs, which I've got narrowed down to a couple choice, I'll soon be back asking for help with dims and port sizes.

What I want to know is that if I want to port an enclosure like this (since now it functions much like a sealed one with the bottom being open, or at least in mine it will be), I'd like to know if I could run the ports outside the enclosure. What I'd do is use a port on either side of the box (on the outside) firing up into the rear deck (into the cabin of the car). I want to port it really low, like down at 25-28hz.

Would having the ports outside the box make any real difference? Depending on the sub and enclosure size would port length be long enough to reach the rear deck? Is it a good idea to fire the ports into the cabin through the rear deck?

heh.. so many questions, and I have so little answers.... Also, don't mind my porting so low, I'm going to have a pretty strong front stage!

ok no prob.... like i said, I'd only be back later for that... what I wanted more was is it ok to port ouside the box? Does it harm the sound? Also is tuning that low really worth it since it's for SQ, or would just using it sealed be ok? Just want to know, cause I'd like to be able to turn the lows up sometimes as well... some people might, but I dont like listening to music with a flat curve all day long!

But a sealed box will be alittle easier in construction (for most people) and sound just fine, it is really up to the choice of sub that you make. Don't let Dukk do the Jedi mind trick to you and tell you that ported sounds better.

Yeah I know, sealed will be more forgiving to my volume inconsistencies ... although, I've always ran all my subs sealed, (except for a crappy 10" in a prefab ported box I had, which sounded like crap). If I have the time and money, I'll build both... this way I can try both out, and increase my amateurish box building skills! The finishing of the trunk can't be done until I have the box in place anyways, so it will at least give me time to experiment.

Keep in mind that most cars dont have a trunk as deep as the impala's.. They are very deep.

I wont have as MUCH trunk space left, but I measured out about 15" in depthfor my 2 10's should be more then enough, and I still have alot of extra room left. The 2nd gen Altima has a large trunk.
