So I posted this thread over at soundsolutionsaudio.com's forum and the Americans are saying that it is a voltage issue, as well as telling me i should check that I have the subs wired correctly, which I know I do....

Any thoughts?

ahh another USA vs Canada issue eh? dork

you amp is over heating, the only question is why. assuming there is no alternator/ battery/ amp or woofer malfunction it is either
1) too low an impedance load (high current causing heat)
2) poor mounting location or cooling (correct it)

low voltage would increase current so it would look like 1)... if this happens when driving it is probably 2.

Try this run with ONE woofer and see if it overheats, that should tell you if it is problem 1 or problem 2

Next time we get together, we shall try the one woofer at a 4 ohm load. He was over today, and we open up the amp to see if anything was wrong internally. Everything looked fine to the eye, nothing was burnt, everythig looked to be in its right place.

As of today, it only went into protect mode once, after about a 15 minute drive with music at a decent volume. The system is also getting a bit louder, which tells me that the woofers need a good break-in period.

I have him play 25hz-35hz tracks everytime he drives his car at moderate volume to help break-in the woofers

Agreed - the amp doesn't like the load and is overheating.

I grounded it to the frame where an existing bolt was. Sanded down the area to bare metal. There arent many places to ground on the car w/o drilling holes which my friend didn't want done.

WEll, my rear batt is grounded to the fram in the trunk, and the amp is then grounded via the negative battery terminal

Issue is still there, not as bad as it was, but its still evident.

What we did though is run one woofer in a ported enclosure (1.25 @ 38hz) and ran the woofer at 4 ohms.

Basically, its louder than the two woofers sealed @ 2 ohms. Not only is it louder, but the amp doesnt even get warm to the touch at 4 ohms.

Unfortunatly, if you guys read my other thread about the faceplate switch between my HU and his HU, you'll read that his unit is fcuked up so the system has been taken out.
