Fiberglass

Could anyone tell me how hard is it going to be to fiberglass the trunk liner & floor in my car. I want to F/G the new sub box that I made today into the liner and to the floor. This will be the first time I play with fiberglass.

It's not hard to lay glass but it takes skill to use it properly. The finishing work is the hardest part, if you are just lining the trunk than you can do it yourself just make sure you put down a lot of tin foil down to line your trunk and cover up anything that might get resin on because it is messy. Make sure you mix in the proper ratio of M.E.K.P. (the hardner) with the resin and your good to go. There are alot more things to know, p.m. me if you want some pointers.

What is the tin foil for? I though you just put the fiber mat down and start putting the resin on it and more fiber mat down and then more resin.

Alternatively you can use duct tape. That's my preferred method. And if you use lots of resin, you get a nice texture from the duct tape. You can also light spray it with Pam for the 'glass to come off really easy.

It's a little more expensive, but I like using the painter's tape you use for painting up around trim and windows in your house. The glue is designed to come off easier while still maintaining a proper seal.

Tin foil will help you take it out when it dries, You can use tape or mold release agent, I just find the tin foil to be the cheapest.

What not to use:

saran wrap
packing tape

I've used both of these and neither works well. I'm not sure if the resin has a chemical reaction with the saran wrap, but the one time I used it I had a hell of a time getting the saran wrap off the inside of my 'glass structure. The packing tape just gets brittle.
