Been a wee bit of a slow week at the shop, but luckily I've given myself a project to occupy my time. I've been trying to meld a "pre-fab" and "custom" design that customers can essentially buy off the shelf. The baffle you see here - which will eventually house three tens in a common-chamber sealed enclosure - is going to be mounted to its counterpart box sometime in the near (or maybe not so near) future. The box itself will be carpeted, so the overall appeareance should look pretty slick, and fit into most average-sized trunks. Anyhoo, here are some preliminary pics of the baffle with the fleece stretched and stapled over the frame:

Looks good!! Nice to see someone building their own boxes for customers to buy off the shelf, instead of forcing cheaply made prefab boxes at an astronomical price. I might have to drive down to London to check out the progress!!

 

Way to keep busy in those down times. Beats the heck out of spending the whole day on Canadian Car Audio!

Thanks for the kind words! I agree, a lot of the prefab stuff available is just really poorly built. It's nice to be able to offer something more solid and of better overall quality. Unfortunately, some customers don't always understand the benefits of custom-made boxes. Oh well...

Nice, My buddy works there Jason Mailloux in the computer side, he drives a Greenish/blueish Precida Mx3... look like a nice setup though got me def interested that's for sure when I can afford to do my **** again...

before you even start glassing that attempt, you should fix a few easy problems that you made.

1: Thier is not one corner in that frame that attually meets. How much integrity do you think that will have

2: The fact that you blew apart the "frame" with every staple you put in the "frame"

3:"Future Shop at Wellington South. The "better" of the two stores." ........What does the other store do ?

5: You put the wrong side of the fleece on the outside of the box.

First of all, I never claimed to be a professional at fibreglass boxes. This is maybe the 3rd or 4th one I've actually worked on, so cut me some bloody slack. Conversely, you need to look at the pictures more closely, because you're way off-base.

1. The actual part of the frame that the fleece is stretched over is glued and screwed together just fine. The part that doesn't meet together is part of the "sub-frame" (for lack of a better term) that will be used solely to screw the entire baffle to the box, so it doesn't matter if the corners meet. The frame is totally solid, unlike your baseless claims...

2. Staples are shot through the sub-frame, so having them perforate through affects precisely dick. That part won't even be visible. Even if for some unforseen reason I had to remove them, I could.

3. This was a crack at the North London FS; hint, a joke. It has nothing to do with anything other than the fact that you brought it up for no apparent reason.

4. WTF do you think I was using to build the frame? My skills with the table saw are fine, thank you.

5. I wasn't aware there was a "right" side. I chose the side that was the least coarse. It's going to take hours of sanding either way.

Since you seem to be such an expert, show me some of the work you've done. I'd be happy to leave you some constructive criticism, unless of course everything to build is perfect. In case you didn't know, FS is not normally heavy on the custom work, with the exception of course of the Langley store with Tim B, and Dereck W does some nice work as well. The stuff I've done is out of pure curiosity and the desire to learn fabrication skills, and should in no way be compared to the level of the stuff Tim does. No one comes around and "teaches" us how to build a fibreglass box. Don't get me wrong, I totally appreciate your smug comments, but next time try not to be such a dick, and maybe I'll consider your them.
