Focal advice
I think you will be entering the point of diminishing returns power-wise anywhere over 200 wrms a side on a passive front stage. If you want to go active 3-ways with like 7-8" for midbass, now thats a diff story.
Just as a point of info,I am now running a set of Focal 165 VRS Slims off of the Alpine with all of 250 watts/channel with gain set at half-with no problems. But I never play at more than 50% on Eclipse head.Every Focal speaker I've ever used (Except the access lines-which sucked) have had outstanding overall sound characteristics.Someday I'll own some BE'S-and be asking the same amp. question about them.

Drop you gain to nil and start over. I have the same deck and either you don't care for the floor noise or like it!

Yes your not amplifying distortion but you are amplifying information that isn't there. That deck is sqeeky clean all the way up to 75 - 78(on low recordings) - Remember this is music - not a controlled test environment!

you should try to optimize your volume setting so that you get max output at about 90-95% volume, depending on the head units distortion at higher volume levels. Some decks are notorious for giving a lot distortion at high volume settings, that Eclipse is not one of them. I know some guys don't like to turn their volume ***** up too high, but in your case it's the way to go...for music in a car, house, boat, garage, club, dancehall, shed, treehouse or... a controlled test environment!!
