ebay is great, so are buying from the big online stores that pop up one year and go away the next, with that being said..you dont get a warrenty or much of one, most of the big companys have not so great rep's with the way they ship products and they are all located in america, so your paying brokerage and higher shipping costs anyway(well...should be)

bestbuy\cc are nice because...uhh....they have good sales? and its always fun to go in and tell the guys their full of it.

local real shops are nice because someone is infront of you you can LISTEN to the product before you buy it, normally a much better warrenty then online, yes you pay more..you also pay more to get your car fixed in a shop instead of doing it yourself..thats what a local store is, they provide a service for you..normally you can find the same product they are selling cheaper elsewhere sometimes u cant..but locally you can see the product, test products they back their products and you dont have to wait 5 months for some moron to send you warrenty items back.

that being said i bought everything online i searched for several weeks first and i couldnt buy the items i picked up locally.

just close your eyes and pick the first great deal off ebay you find, i herd CDT's are a good price off ebay sure..99 percent of them are fake but who cares right?

eBay is a super place to buy used equipment PERIOD.

the sales of new equipment on eBay is often somewhat suspect. No warranty, no guarantee what your buying is not a factory return or second. Often this is a bona fide retailer selling 'back door' to move old stock to keep favorable pricing deals with the manufacturer (by doing this they save up to 20% of THEIR cost). They violate various agreements/ contracts by doing this they launder through eBay or an 'online store' and hide their identity from the manufacturer. Yes this is a good deal but it is slitting the throats of reputable dealers and the industry itself since the eBay sales are selling for less than most retailers can purchase the same product. Imagine a world without retail shops... this can happen to some markets.

I am sorry but a mom and pop organization with customer service in mind is who I want to deal with, they take care of me even when I am stupid and blow stuff up. Heck even a big box store give the basics at a good price. Now as for those 'arrogant' shops... they will put themselves out of business with or without eBay.

People complain about the perks in the industry going away (no sponsored car audio shows, no equipment giveaways, fewer sponsored vehicles etc.) and eBay is a major contributor to this. eBay is a concession sales org. they own nothing, they sell other peoples stuff an skim $ off the top, it is a super business model (no risk, no inventory, no rent, few employees, unlimited growth).

Sorry I will pay a bit more.

After reading this, I can see everyone's point. It sucks that these forums are biased, but that is the way business goes. There has to be some advantage for the Advertisers. These forums are in no way non-biased or balanced.

There also shouldn't be name calling between anyone. For a retailer to get mad at this guy is pointless. First of all, he is a potential customer who is clearly upset that he can not get the prices he wants from his local shop. He WANTS to shop with you. Secondly, attacking him does not look good on yourself it makes you seem defensive as though you are wrong.

As for a solution. I would suggest that Independent retailers of car audio equipment form some sort of organization to lobby for lower prices. If you had a group then you could influence manufacturers to reduce the cost to Canadian retailers so that they can be competitive with American retailers. For this, it may or may not be a good idea to team up with Big Box retailers.

At the end of the day the poster has a very valid point in that it is often times cheaper to order products from the United States, Ebay or otherwise. Furthermore, it can also appear to customers that Canadian retailers are greedy...TRY AND UNDERSTAND THAT...Instead of just getting mad. Your tone seems as though you are just trying to invalidate his concerns.

Canadians want to shop Canadian. Maybe its time for retailers to do something about THEIR problem.

We are making just as much as US dealers point wise on selling product out of the door of a retail location. Where the challenge lyes is duties, shipping, tax and brokerage fees. The ebay thing for new equipment is bad for dealers and for consumers to a certain extent. For these reasons:

A) As a non-authorized dealer you may sell for $1 over cost if you like its your choice.
A-1) Authorized dealers have to adhere to pricing policies set forth by the manufacture.

B) As a non-authorized dealer you could be here today gone tomorrow.
B-1) Authorized dealers normally have invested money and interest, they are normally more stable then an ebay user.

C) Warranty offered by a non-authorized seller maybe none. Even though they offer it, it may be a Joe Blow dude fixing crap in his basement.
C-1) Warranty by an authorized retailer would be backed by the company manufacturing the product to ensure top quality repairs or replacements.

D) Ebay stores have in the past sold stolen, refurb, used, fakes and broken equipment without warning to the purchaser or disclosing these facts.
D-1) Authorized vendors get first quality legit products to protect you.
(BTW on this note you get caught with stolen gear from ebay and its kept as evidence, you lose it!)

There is so many more reasons, it costs money to protect your investment. Ebay is great for used and non-protected gear. Someone mention this board is bias and protects its vendors. It does to a certain extent. Every single one of our vendors would bend over backwards to service our CCA members. And I mean everyone. Advice and service is not always free but most of us try our best. But some people refuse to take advise and thats fine. But as a authorized retailer we have to tell you about the side effects and warn you about things that can happen, may happen and will happen.

Welp... I think this thread is done now.

For an eBay vs. Retailers argument just search, we've done it a thousand times and it won't change (no matter how many times the OP insults everyone on the board)

I think he may just be pissed because he recieved a warning... which I've already explained the reasoning behind.

So... this one is closed
