Didn't he have to modify the 301M to make it do 1 ohm? or did he just swap fuses?

I've owned all the original Rockfords,p-45,p-75 and the p-150, back in the day. I own current punch series p-6001 and p-8004 amps and I have to say that while the original stuff is what got me hooked on this car audio hobby, They did not sound better than the new amps. They were very versatile but not more than todays versions. Any thing that I could have done with those old amps I can still do today with my new ones. I remember people saying you could load an old p-45 down to .5 ohm and stuff like that, Tried it...It just went into protection just like my current amp would. I can hook up 20 drivers to my new amp if I keep the impedance within range, just like the guys did back in the mid to late 80's. It's not magic, just math.

New Rockford is unfortunate in that they are listing the "peak power" on their punch stuff.
As for their old stuff, I'm guessing it was rated as a true watt (into an 8 ohm load) and I'm guessing they did not use 14.4 as their power voltage, hence them being even more underratted than the current which rates the watt into a 4 ohm load at 14.4v.

My basis on this comes from the stack of warranty claims I have to show the frequency of repair old vs. new and the issues that arise from it. What is your views of this based on? I like Rockford, they have built great gear over the years.
