Fuses Blowing EVERYWHERE!!!!

I have a 92jimmy

I tried plugging my ipod fm transmitter charger and holder into my 12volt cigarett lighter Everytime i plug it in the horn fuse blows.... I'm wondering why becuase it shuts all my accesories down, interior lights horn and deck.

I want to know if this can be fixed because i love the convenice of the transmitter. Is there anything i can do?

The fuse is rated 20 amps i think im going to see if the transmitter is rated more then 12 volts but i doubt it.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Run a new 12V from your battery for your cigarette lighter. Use a relay switched off your ACC.

Dont worry about the relay, its a cigarette lighter. Supposed to have power all the time. Run a new power wire to the lighter, it wouldnt hurt to re ground it somewhere too.

Don't forget to fuse your new wire.

As for the relay, my car's cigarette lighter shuts off when the acc is off and if hes running an accessory that works with his stereo (which should be off with the acc off), then it makes more sense to use a relay.

I"m going to do the research, im looking at a bunch of amps right now, although i cant afford any of them untill i save up some money

I'v still got a cople of questions, is it true that your set up sounds way better being pretty much all JL instead of mixing JL subs and an alpine amp, etc?

I'm new to car audio. I hope this site can help me understand it better, i dont want to waste money but im not cheap ethier. I go for quality, im also looking for a good deck with an ipod hook up with sub outputs..

Do sub outputs make alot of diffrence?

thanks in advance, Weman!

Mixing brand names does not hurt your overall sound. If anything, it can make it better. Not one company can be the top of the game in every piece of equipment.

I'm not sure what you mean by sub outputs. Sub outputs from your head unit makes a huge difference rather than trying to use a rear output for lows.

Get back to us and we'll try to help however we can.

Those factory GM lighter sockets are famous for blowing fuses even if there is not much a load on them. When they get old they start to short internally to ground the second that something is plugged into them. You may want to pick up an aftermarket accessory lighter socket if this is the case. You can get them anywhere and mount them in a convienient location. Just don't plug a cigerette lighter into one of these.

Thanks guys.. I dont have any money now so theres not much i can do about the whole sub output. All i can do is stick with the deck that i have now, but im having a problem with my subs right now, they keep fading in and out (sound wize) one second they work, the next they dont? I'm assuming this could be a problem at the deck, wire conection maybe?
