I have a Pioneer Avic910bt and the 'system startup' takes what seems to be a long time to complete, but it is not really THAT long. It is just I want it all to work instantly and I have no patience. When my iopd is connected it also take a while to update the 'music library'. BUT other than that I like the deck. And I not longer need to have tons of cd's in my truck. The GPS is fully intergrated and works well. The touchscreen does occiasionally not work on the first tap of the finger. I paid $500 for it and I can live with the imperfections. I just hope Pioneer uses better software in the newer models. I would like to upgrade to the 920 or the Z1 but I have yet to hear if the "bugs" have been worked out. Anyone have one and can let me know? I would appreciate it.

So, I would recommend this deck for the price. Sure if I had $1000 to $1500 to spend, I would choose a different one.

Im running a Kenwood DNX-5120... paid 450 in a pawn shop and another 60 for a gps antenna... I would be in another 200 or so (i think) to get the BT-100 bluetooth kit... either way I would hate to go back to boring single din

I have the AVIC-F700 and I find it a bit slow. There was a new firmware release which sped things up quite a bit but sometimes it misses a finger tap. It has all the features you mentioned. If I were in the market for a new one I'd get a better one that is responsive and has a faster processor. I would definitely try one out in the store for a while before buying.

Humprite: You can turn off the auto update so that it doesn't read the whole library every time you plug in the Ipod.

First I downloaded it from Pioneer Updates and put it on a USB drive. Then I inserted the drive into the deck and I think I had to browse to a menu option that loaded the new firmware. I only added the new firmnware but I had the option to add skins or my own background photos. Your model is probably similar.

Kevin, how do I turn off the auto update? On the ipod itself? or on the deck?

I realize that the OP for this is 2 years old, but for anyone else looking, you can grab an older AVIC series locally (Kijiji) or through eBay at a reasonable price. I picked up an F700BT off eBay for $165 bucks...mint condition with all the accesories (that's important cuz the accesories can add up). Unit had the reboot issue that I quickly cleared up by upgrading the unit to this >LINK< firmware. Threw in the latest maps and the unit now rocks. Much better speed and response. FWIW.
