the interior of the car is a definate reflection on the owner. I just can't get over the fact that most people have no shame in bringing in their car in that condition! Especially the customers who want a sub and amp installed but their trunk is full of laundry and liquor bottles, then ask if it's going to be in the way! Are there anymore horror stories?

Be glad you guys don't work on my vehicle. It's nasty! I could almost plant a garden in it. Don't worry though... if it goes in for servicing or whatever it's clean as can be. Untill then, there is coffee stains on the middle console, cig ashes everywhere, dust, lots of timmy's coffee cups... old burgers and fries (still in the bags for the most part), etc. a NIGHTMARE. It smells as bad as it looks!!! But this is my space, my mess and I am the only one that lives in it on the road. At home, I do 1/2 the cleaning and the house is spotless. I'm a clean person in general, accept my vehicle! Almost proud of it lol. A person's car doesn't always reflect how they live in in general.... trust me! Just don't look in my vehicle.... You've been warned!!
Oh... there's leftover fries on the floor in the back if anyone wants some. Just nuke them if you want them warmed up a little. Might even find some ketchup packs too.

The big box stores have it right. DON'T say anything to the customer.....if you really want the business, you'll work on the car. If it is really that bad, you can always turn it away. I buy alot of used cars and have seen the crap you guys all talk about, but this is someones PERSONAL area. who cares if they **** in a bottle, sure its gross, but are you drinking it? most shop guys I know wear gloves and overalls anyways.....there's a reason for it. And if you installers are doing a half-assed job because a car is dirty, then your boss needs to slap you up side the head. I work in an industry where I go into peoples houses. ALOT of them look like pigs live there, but regaurdless of the state of their house, the works gets done, and done WELL. Regaurdless if it is a crack shack, or a multi-million dollar home. Besides, untill you work with DBO(dead body odor), You ain't smelled/seen nothing. ever scrape brains off a cement floor?? getting off topic, I know.... Here's a tip....if someones car is dirty, don't offend them by asking them to clean it, maybe charge a bit more for the job to cover gloves and soap costs. It makes you happy to get more for installing, the customer doesn't have to be embarrassed(they usually already know they are pigs and what is in their car), and you get a return customer and pehaps their friends/familys business too next time.
Customer service has really gone down the crapper, just as much as people don't care about their messy cars....

I always clean my car on the rare occasion I bring it in for anybody but myself to work on. I feel that the person working on the car would respect my car and maybe take a little more pride in their work than if I brought a disgustingly dirty car to them. Maybe that's optimistic but hey it doesn't work.
What about mechanics and installers who don't give a rip about making YOUR car dirty? When I had my Avenger and it had very nicely crafted kick panels in it with vinyl covering and grilles with grille cloth, I would very clearly tell the service advisor at the Dodge dealer (car is new and under warranty) that I have speakers down there and not to dirty them and to please tell the tech. So what do I get back? A filthy grille because Joe Tech klonked his steel toe right on top of it. My kicks weren't even on the floor, they were built off the factory kick panel so it wasn't like it was right in your way. I was TICKED especially after the lengthy explanation to the advisor to be careful. He got some 'cleaner' and tried to clean it. Made it worse. Ended up having to recover it.
I know I wouldn't want to be a full-time installer or mechanic. It would drain the fun out of it double-quick working on dirty beaters that all the parts are rusted together, broken or about to break or just missing. That must just suck.

^^totally agree...there's no excuse for messing up somebody's vehicle...I'll tell you one thing though, when I worked on a clean, neat car, I was extra careful to keep it that way. I assumed the owner would notice anything out of place or dirty that I did. If it was a dirty...oh well!

On the flip side, the people bringing their car to any place to have work done on it should respect the people who are going to do the job enough to give them a decent work environment. At least tidy up the garbage. Grab a grocery bag and go nuts. You'll probably find enough loose change in there to cover some of the costs anyway. lol
