Again i'll ask...why plate amps?

Yes but so does every hometheater reciever produced these days.

Just go and by any decent monoblock amp and be done with it.

 

Plate amps are cheaper and easier to use

 

Plate amps require power cord and wall outlet *with hydro of course* [img]tongue.gif[/img] , To mono block it for example you need power supply of sorts for the ac/dc conversion and lack of amps from the power supply will reduce the chance of that amp even getting close to it's rated power output unless you get a bigg as ac/dc converter and its almost if not 200$ for a 46amp constant current supply. Right there your looking 200$+taxes, plus your amp cost your well over the cost of a plate amp and plate amps fit nicely into the box you don't have this honkin amp just bolted to the side or where ever you may put it.

 

^ Whats with this ac/dc converter? It's not like anyone would be that GHETTO to use a car amp.

 

I am talking about a home theater amplifier. One that is made for use in the home. What is more simple than that?

 

Thats what I am doing. I am using a dual monoblock Soundstream DA-1 amplifier with a Soundstream C-1 pre-amp. I could take the subwoofer output from my Yamaha receiver which has a 120Hz 12dB/oct lowpass crossover. But I have that hooked up to my pre-built sub/plate amp setup.

I use an automotive crossover for the SS amp/preamp. Much steeper slope, more options on cutoff frequencies and whatnot. Right now it isn't being used because I sold the sub it was powering. Now i Only use the sub/pate amp.
