How much Difference ?

Had Infinity refs, kappas, and perfects...all sound very good at their price point. On top of that they handle great power, and get plenty loud. Their tweets tend to be brighter than most other brands, but if you set them up properly (angle the tweets, cut the 10khz frequency band by 3-4 dB's depending on your car and your systems adjustability) they're excellent...especially if you like your highs bright...like I do. If you want softer highs, use the Reference components with the silk domes. Anyway, properly set up and powered, they sound great and certainly will be light years ahead of what you have. The perfects are one of the nicest sounding comp sets at any price, and the main reason I went to the JBL's is for the higher power handling, and excellent titanium dome tweets, plus it's the closest I've come to re-creating the JBL concert sound I love!

You are right, the K2Ps are pricey so if you want to check out another great speaker from Focal, check out the 165VR ....

Well, if you install a nice component set in the front, you will find your bass does not bump as much as you think it does. Right now with factory speakers, your subs probably sound like they are the cause of earthquakes in India, but thats cause the balance is out, and fronts cant keep up at all. When you install proper speakers and give them hefty power, you will not be thinking your bass is better than the next guy, but at least you will have good sound. If you have T.A., and set it correctly, you will see what else you've been missing, and wont be able to go back. But not the crappy T.A. like Eclipse, which works like a fader, real stuff like on the Alpine. If you want the best sound out of your system, you need to spend the most money on the front. Do it right the first time, and enjoy, or save money now, and regret later. I am yet to hear Infinity Kappa or Perfects that sounded a fraction as good as properly installed and tuned expensive speakers. You do get what you pay for.
Kinokin, you have yet to hear properly set up Focals in a car. The lower line you're selling from your ride were not even given a proper chance either. You need to have Dynamat, break them in, cross them properly(know your design limitations), and how are you going to get good sound and do proper tuning if you dont even have a normal head unit at all, and using your Ipod hooked up to an amp with RCA's, and you probably get all kinds of "muddy" from Ipod alone. To give credit to Infinity speakers they seem to be made to sound better on a ghetto install, than expensive gear on the same install, probably cause the Infinity's are not revealing speakers, and hide flaws really well.

Figure out what your budget for speakers is and then I can zero in on some quality component speakers (and definitely not Infinity/Energy/JBL/Kenwood etc.).

Think about 3-ways, cause potentially you can get amazing sound out of moderately priced 3-ways, and if you want comparable quality from the 2-ways, you need to shell out larger coin. 3-ways however will be more challenging to install.
