They are talking about a wire with a head phone jack on one end and two rca heads on the other. Go to radioshack and buy one. Then by a charging kit. Then use the ipod to change songs. You will have to keep your volume constant on your ipod because it will affect the signal strength going to your deck.

Here is a monster cable version

Monster iSplitter Mini Y-Adapter iPod Accessories

and another

SoundKase IUHPS iPod Accessories

There is also a cable that allows you to unput the signal into your antenna plug I believe. Less quality loss than a wireless transmitter, but it lets you keep your aux plugs free'd up.

thanks a million!

another question, using one of those cables (3.5mm to dual rca's), will the sound quality be the same as it is on the iPod through headphones? Is there any loss of quality there? Will the sound coming out through the headunit be in stereo still, or will it be mono when in AUX running from the ipod?

Thanks again!

The splitter will take the R channel to the red rca and the left channel to the black rca (or white or what ever color they have). You shouldn't lose much quality other than if the wires are run next to power cables, your heater blower, electric coils etc.

Basically, it should be the same quality as your ipod.

This type of connection is supposed to give you a better quality sound than going thru the mini plug.

I have the same type of cable but better quality. Only problem is you can't charge it at the same time, so I guess I'll have 2 ipods with the same songs, one charging while the other plays.

hey man! bought a bunch of stuff from radioshack/the source last night. got the y adapter (2rca to 3.5mm), and a 3.5mm female to male extension

hooked it up, routed wires through dash near glove box, under, behind fuse box, under center console and out from the ashtray, it has a lid, so i can tuck the cable in there and no one knows.

next plans are to get a charger, hardwire it, run it thru the dash to glovebox, mount it in there all nice and pretty, then rewire the 3.5mm cable to same spot...maybe add some led's to make things pretty...we will see.

thanks again

ps* i just got out of surgery on my shoulder, im jacked up on morphine and percocets...so if i didnt make sense sorry. it was successful though!!! 6 weeks in a sling=sh*tty.. no driving stick for a while

euw for 1 handed typing

hey thanks a lot. this site never ceases to amaze me, unlike most forums, this one doesn't seem to get as many assh*les/flamers

ps* how would I go about hard wiring an ipod charger so I can use the lighter port still? would it be as simple as opening up the plug(lighter side), and hard wiring the 12v line to an acc. line, and then simply ground out the ground connection? or is there more to it....... get back to me,

take care!

I would use a relay and use an acc wire to trigger it. I would run a wire from the battery (with an inline fuse) to the relay and would ground to the frame. That way, there is no chance of over drawing your cigarette lighter (assuming that you use it which would be the reason you want to keep it free'd up). If you cut your wire before the transformer, you should just be able to run the 12volt straight to the charger. If not, you will have to look into getting something to get the correct voltage input to the charger (or you could damage your ipod).

I'm looking for a bit of backup from someone in the forum with more experience hard wiring for power. I know with neon tubes and led's if you don't have an onboard transformer, you need to put one in or you will blow them.
