Just getting my feet wet in bass box pro 6.... hoping someone could tell me if this looks ok for a musical ported enclosure

 

So long as music is only in the 50-60hz area should be good. That's very peaky..looks like a good tune for my car though

 

WAY TOO PEAKY for music .... Your amplitude response should be as flat as possible for as long as possible. That box you designed would make many SPL people happy campers.

 

I dont know why its so peaky... its 4.3ft3 and 80in2 of port tuned to 38hz (2 kicker
12l7d2's) shrinking the port/ and or box vol. doesnt help at all really and I cant make the box any bigger (size of hatch area).... what should I do?

 

Check your messages. You can email me the file if you'd like and I'll take a look at it for you.... There has to be a way to flatten that response curve.

Good effort. Bass Box 6 pro is a great program.

Your plot curve looks a little 'peeky', but that's normal for a vented enclosure if you're tuning the enclosure high or the fs of the driver is high. Like everyone has mentioned, depending your application this may be a bit high... or this may be a super good curve. One thing to remember is that this is a curve plotted from a simulation. In actuality, this will change when installed into a vehicle. The lower end will gain a few db, smoothing this response a little more. If you want to see what it may look like, click onto the 'car' button and enable the low frequency rise.

Again, I think your efforts look very good. Keep working on it for a better understanding of how it calculates responses... it's a very valuable program once you become familiar with. Try practicing with the wave calculator, this is a very good thing to become familiar with as you can tune enclosures according to vehicle path lengths.

Build a 3.5ft^3 (Net) Tune it to 40Hz.
You'll be happy.
You'll end up using the rest of the space you have available with port and sub displacement.

 

thanks alot for the input... the program can be alittle overwhelming to start with but im sure after I get the hang of it it will pay off in the long run. I think I may try this enclosure and see how it sounds, worse case scenario it sounds horrible and I toss it in the garbage lol its only $30 in wood and I do enjoy building boxes anyways so we will see. Im hoping to line the port up with the glass on the hatch and see what happens... I did what you said with the low freq. rise and here is what it looks like plotted... it reached the top of the curve alot earlier and smoothed out somewhat until the low 50's than is has a peak well you can see by looking lol

I plotted out a DB Drive sub a few years ago and the response curve looked crazier than that, but once in the trunk of a car, it really really sounded good.
