I have a stock JBLamp - should I add components or replace amp?

I'm not too crazy about my door speakers even though they are JBL and they have a JBL factory amp they are just not that great. I have added a woofer - a L7 kicker on a mrx m100 alpine amp. I now want to add new door speakers and was thinking of just replacing the speakers and letting the factory JBL amp do the work. I could get cheap ALPINE components that are like 65 watts rms for cheap. Could this be a good idea? I cant find specs on the JBL amp so I do not know what kind of power it is putting out. What are your thoughts on this?

Because it's a theoretical question (sans someone having first hand experience on this particular setup). The question is this: Is the speaker the weak point, the amp, or both? The worst thing you can do is install the door speakers and see what happens but if you decide you still don't like it then you're now buying a second set of speakers and a replacement amp. You could technically tap the factory amp and put one of the speakers in a temporary enclosure to see if it has more umph than the speaker in the door. Or just go total overkill and do an amp and replacement speakers. Nobody can really answer this for you sans aforementioned possible previous first hand experience.

I have a 65watt x 4 channel amp - would conponents pushed at 65rms sound good or do I need to get some killer speakers?

Dilatory gave you a reasonable response - try replacing the speakers first and then the amp.

Truly the stock amp and speakers are both garbage so you should replace it all.

65x4 doesn't mean anything without a brand attached to it, and without knowing what components you are looking at, how can anyone respond with a decent answer?

You are asking for free advice. Be happy if you get it. So far you have asked if a random amp will work on random speakers. What answer would you like from the crystal ball?? Let's go with: Absolutely! Go for it!

As an aside, your posts are 3-4 hours apart, people don't live on here, there's jobs, family etc. A response usually takes a day or so. What you need to do is give as much information as humanly possible when posting so that when someone is here to reply they can give you the best answer possible.

But seriously, if you're not happy with the factory setup patching it together rarely helps. It's a cheap mass produced setup.

Try something like this:
RE Audio DTX-750.4 (dtx7504) 320W RMS DTX Series Class AB 4-

Hell.. you haven't even given us what car this is going in, what size the speakers are or anything else really so I can't even recommend speakers.

Edit: Type R's are fine for what you're looking for. Buy those, get a decent 300-400w RMS Amp and a KnuKonceptz amp wiring kit and you're good to go.

yeah bro..start with year, make and model of car, then as much info about factory syste,..speaker sizes, etc.. what you're expecting and type of music you listen to. I had a 94 stang with a ford jbl mach 420 system that was decent, but i ended up adding extra tweeters up front and a 10" sub and amp...much better after (at least for general music listening and not for blowing doors off at stoplights). So, it depends on what you have and what you want.
