I was in the same delema couple days ago. MR2NR is right. Go for the Eclipse. I was deciding between Alpine and Eclipse like you and after trying them both out....I liked the Eclipse hands down. The menus and controls are really smooth and the sound is awesome. My $.02

Yeah, but you were looking at the lower end.... The ALpine 9830 is an alright deck.... but nothing to write home about. Alpine isnt all about gizmos, most of it's features and toys are actually useful. The only major feature the eclipse really has is a stronger signal voltage (and maybe an easier learning curve to navigate the features then alpine) .... apart from that, I find the Alpine to be a much more useful deck. 4V preouts are enought for most people needs, and I personaly dont like the Eclipse anti-theft system. When I was shopping around for my new deck, I was looking around for a Pioneer 940, Alpine 9833/35 or and Eclipse 8454.... Money wasnt much of an object, those were just my top contenders, I ended up picking up the 9835....

Pioneer I liked just cause of the ease of use, but it was a little much for me .... I didnt want the new 9600 cause it was too flashy, I didnt like the silver trim..... The Eclipse, being a top model source unit, lacked some options that I wanted/needed..... Top notch signal quality, but I wanted to have most of my control all in one unit. I found the Alpine had everything I wanted.... but I do have to admit, the 9833 is just as good as the 9835, although the '35 has the nicer display, and a few other little things that drew me toward it! But all in all, for a simple powerful deck, the '33 could have sufficed.

I have the CDA9833 and prefered the "meat & potatoes" over the fancier display from the Bio-Lite on the 9835.

SQ-wise I did okay at the USACi event in Surrey earlier with my SPLish Toyota truck. I just forgot to change my settings between runs.
