drinking a coffee and reading the newspaper

kinda puts things in perspective

And what if the customer goes in and plays with the wire after he leaves the shop? The same person will still be driving down the road watching the movie with all these potential bad things happening... who's to say who hooked it up incorrectly?

Waivers are not an entirely bad idea; however, they do not always stand up in a court of law.
For example, you put a remote start on a car with a manual transmition for someone. Somehow, the car mows down a pedestrian. Just because the customer waived your liability, does not mean the pedestrian did...BUT, if you had some sort of "safety switch" installed and the consumer bypassed it, you have proof that you did install the unit safely and correctly.
