Infinity products overpriced?
Do you guys think Infinity products are overpriced? I do. There Infinity Reference 6 1/2 is $260 here. I mean they are O.K speakers but I don't believe they should cost that much money. The tweeter is too bright to my ears and it lacks a lot of midbass, even with doors sound deadened.
I have not listened to the Kappa series, but I was told they are not much different than the Reference series.
What are your thoughts on Infinity products?

Junk?? Oouch.
Overpriced? I think so. I got Infinity Ref. 5 1/4 comp's and 6x9's 2ways (rearfill). I've got nothing to compare them to as my last setup was coax spkrs running on HU power. From what I've read on this forum I think there's much better out there for that price but the stuff just isn't that mainstream. You need to research the product and then find a place to buy them.
I got my spkrs shipped from the US on e-bay. They were less than half price of FS & Best Buy etc. Even after duty & customs brokerage they were way cheaper.
Anyways I'm real happy with them but after I upgrade them (a few years down the road yet) I'm sure my story will change.

FS Does have some crazy prices on there car audio products, especially amps. My first car audio speakers were Infinity reference, now I am going from Infinity to Morel very soon. I am hoping it will be a VAST improvement.
EDIT: Although the Reference 5 1/4 crossovers held up quite well in the Cavalier I previously owned. The installer at FS mounted it inside the door at the bottom, and zip-tied it in. The terminals were corroded pretty bad after being in there for like 4 years but it still seemed to work just fine.
I think a zip-lock bag would of help maybe? Anyone ever try that so the crossover doesn't get too damp?

why not mount the crossover INSIDE the car?

I usually build a pocket where one of the holes in the door panel are, out of Dynamat when deadening the doors, specifically to mount the Xovers. This way they are sunk into the door, but not exposed to the elements inside the door panel. Always worked good for me. Hold them into place with velcro. Just make sure it doesn't interfere with the window movement.

That is a good idea, I think this time I will have them mounted inside the car. That way I can easily adjust the tweeter db on the crossover. I might have to drill a hole through the door panel though so I can rout the wires through .

That works if you want to display the Xover. I usually look for a carpeted area on the door panel if you have it. Makes it easier to hide the holes after. Also sometimes if you remove the controls (window/locks) you can velcro the Xover down inside there. Then all you have to do is remove the controls (usually pop out, held with clips) and adjust, then stick back to the velco and push the controls back into place.
