Install help - naked amp?

I want to mount an amp inside the dash without it's casing. I am told that mounting an amp without it's casing might be a bad idea IF the board inside is mounted directly to the external casing (as opposed to the back plate). I am also told that this is more of a precaution if I planned on having the thing cranked a lot and/or ran it at a 2 Ohm load, neither of which I do.

The amp is a Pioneer GM-3300T (60x2) and will be used to run a pair of 6x8s at full range. Nothing crazy, just better than stock.

I planned on mounting the amp without the casing and using 2 2x2" auxiliary fans to be sure air would be flowing over the board, however didn't know until now that the amp I would purchase had the board mounted to the casing.

Does anyone have any practical experience with this?

PATIA for any positive input.

You're correct in thinking that certain amplifiers can be mounted without their housing Though, the amplifier you have mentioned uses it's cosmetic housing as a heat sink for the power devices.

Even with the fans, run without the case, these devices will most likely over heat and fail within a few minutes of operation. If space is an issue, try mounting it (complete) under the seat?

Hope this helps!

ya, mosfets need the case for a heatsink. I wouldn't attempt this unless your willing to look into buying another amp soon.

Okay, fair enough. I can mount the amp there the way it is, just need to spend a little more time on the brackets.

Thanks for the verification guys!
