install kit dimensions

Hi Everyone, new to the forum. I have a ixa-407 alpine head unit and am looking for an install kit. best buy sold me one from best kits and the opening for the mounting sleeve is too small so i returned it. i am looking at purchasing either the metra 95-2009 or the scosche 1590AB kit, does anyone know the inside dimensions of the opening for the mounting sleeve to slide into. hard to find the kits in southern ontario and am heading down to florida in two weeks so i will pick one up there and install the head unit.. 2000 monte carlo ss.

thanks in advance..............

Well, what part number did you get from Best Buy? I have used all three brands and only felt that there was a difference in selection, not fitment.... There are two Best Kits available for your car, one of which is a "universal" kit, the other is vehicle specific. The "universal" kits need a bunch of tabs clipped to make it fit in the car, not the deck into the kit. If it's a little tight, I have noticed on alot of kits you may need to use a knife or some sand paper to get rid of the small peaks made by the moulding process. Sometimes just squeezing the cage a bit at the center will give it the little space it needs to slide in. Hope this helps

this is the part number BKGMK422 and the mounting sleeve would not come close to fitting without removing top and bottom of the faceplate and only utiliziing the side pieces.

You're only supposed to use the side pieces in this kit, that's the way it works. I forgot about your deck at first, I thought it was a single din. For that Alpine, you clip the tabs on the side pieces that you aren't going to use, and you ISO mount the deck to the left and right side panels in that kit. The whole unit slides in like the factory radio did and that's it. You don't use the massive cage that Alpine provides with the deck, just the Best Kits parts and the deck.
