1. Yes, it could be this and it could be that; lots of things have been suggested, no one here knows or is saying.
2. Because you are new you may not know that there are quite a few car audio professionals, competitors, and knowledgable enthusiasts that frequent this board. And those of us that have learned from them realize in the industry there are build houses and part sharing. It's too expensive for everyone to build their own from scratch.
3. All the RE gear I have seems to perform very well. I've never heard of Onyx MA before this.
4. We respect a company's need to take the time to respond to these types of things. And there's a very good possibility that they will never say anything more.
5. Nobody here wants any blood. And we've used the time they need to have this wonderfull thread.
6. Yes it could very well have been an inside job.
Btw, do you own one of the affected subs? No?
I didn't think so.
Thanks for stopping by, have a nice day.

Oynx is a good company just like RE..
I dont think any of this is an inside job.. I mean there are more than 1 motor which didn't get grinded off.. and those original pictures did NOT come from anyone who works for or is affiliated with RE.

Someone on CAF quoted RE as saying they were "tolerance issues", with the Onyx drivers, which worked fine given the RE coils, which wouldn't impact performance, if so.
That's not really the issue that I'd worry about at all, personally.
I'm more concerned about what customers were led to believe they were buying for full price (A stock) compared to what the customers were actually sold (recycled B stock), although I don't think any laws have been broken.
It's interesting hearing Scott from RE stating "I should have personally overseen the removal of the logos", which would seem to indicate he can't trust his employees or staff to do things correctly.
I'll speculate that the fact that a black disk was ever slated to be glued on to the backs of the motors would seem to contradict RE's claims that they had even planned to machine the logo off the back of the woofers...
If they were going to machine the logos off the back of the motors, why would it be necessary to glue a disk to the back of the motors?
