Inverters and the problem of overload protection
#1
Well I'm almost ready to put the xbox in the car. I'd just like to throw out one question. I've been screwing around with the inverter I have. It has overload and low battery protection. When the inverter is plugged into the cigarette lighter socket and I turn the car on, it goes into protection mode. I then have to turn it off and back on again for it to work. Now once the inverter is on it runs fine (even with the xbox plugged into it), the problem is, I don't want to be digging through the trunk to turn the inverter off and on every time I start the car.
In my install the inverter will be powered through the ignition and not a cigarette lighter. Will this make a difference? Furthermore, is there any way to get around the problem of my inverter going into protection mode when the car is started?
Thanks.

Hey not to sure about this yet, but there has been a hiss on every system on that i have heard using an inverter. At least when it is plugged into the lighter socket. A local shop said something about a grounding plane
When It is hooked up to the battery on a fused wire with a switch, (like 5 bucks at crappy tire) it seems to cure the problem at least in the cars i have seen.
I say try it out if you have the chance worked for me and my buddies
