JL Audio W7 vs W6
I demoed a 12W7 off my JL 500/1 and loved it. That being said, I own a 12W6V2. Manville Smith of JL Audio has also mentioned several times that UP to 500 watts, he would take the W6V2. I am very good friends with the owners of the local JL shop, and my price on either would have been very good. I could have had a W7 instead, but honestly, I didn't see the point given my setup and tastes. The W6v2 sounds excellent too.
I am assuming by W6 you do mean W6v2(it seems many are referring to the W6v2 as a W6 which can cause confusion).

Ive heard or owned almost every one of the subs that was mentioned in this post.. I will go on the record and state that the only sub that i have truely thought gave the w7 a run was the cmpx2. under 80 hz the w7 has more share output and control than any other sub ive heard.
Yes theres lots of other subs that get louder, however they dont sound as good.. The w7 exhibits almost zero overhang, ive played with every size w7 except the 8....
To appreciate what you get in the sub, you gotta understand the technology incorporated into it. Not saying any of you guys dont understand it.. But after openly downing the w7 for the cost and then trying it, i have to admit that ive eaten my words.
i can go on about the technology, the testimonials the tests ive done with them the comparisons ive done, but i will go into details only if you guys want me too as they are rather lengthy.

I can vouch for Kriston and his testimony.
As it was him and I who did the testing with all these drivers against the W7.......and the W7 still prooves itself time and time again.
I think we've found that the W7 is the most controlled woofer that we have used to date......no overhang what so ever.
One of the most versitile woofers..........you can play any type of music on it......and it still sounds great. At moderate or even high volume levels. What I love best about it.....is its ability to blend in with your highs with proper x over slopes etc...

I don't doubt any of the technology put into these subs. I was raving and wanting a 13W7 for quite some time until I found the Eclipse Ti and stroker were better buys for the money I put out.
I know JL knows how to make great subs, but for a sub $30,000 income earner, I never felt liberal enough financially to buy one.
The place I was at (A&B) that sold them wanted $1900 CDN for the 13W7 and said they could let me have one for $1500. WELL, I decided to hold off on that investment. They also didn't have any playable subs on display, so that downplayed my decision a LOT. I also knew I could get a W7 for less, but that's when little Mr. Stroker and Mr. Titanium came and knocked on my door and basically I now have 4 subs to play with, so I'm set.
BTW, I have to ask, what is overhang? I'm rather unfamiliar with the term, although I have a vague idea of what it is. I hope someone can clear this up for me.
