Kenwood 993 vs Eclipse 5030
#11
well, just bought the Kenwood, so I am hoping it is a good deck. Anything has to be better then the 6-7 year old pana I am rocking now. The features in the Kenwood really appealed to me and $260 was a pretty good deal. I will update once it is installed to let you know how it works.

Wow where did you get it for $260? was in the 693 or 993?
The best price I have found for the 993 is $400 (that's in Canada not from the states (no warranty))
Regardless I think I am going with the Eclipse from Rob. Seems like the only thing I like better about then kenwood is the faceplate look and the text style. The menu's seem better in the eclipse I am curios to know how you like yours.

if you are able to get your hands on a 991, it is a much nicer headunit than the 993. get a decent one used with bluetooth kit, and its hard to beat. you will have a superior headunit and still get it cheaper most likely. you weren't looking at a warrantied item anyways.

jstoner: I am buying it in Canada from an authorized dealer so for whichever I buy it will have a warranty the idea of buying used hasn't really crossed my mind for a deck I think I want to go new.

I actually was planning on getting the Eclipse 5030, now you are all making me reconsider.

fair enough. i thought i read somewhere you were looking at one without a warranty.
nevertheless, if you happen to come across a 991, check it out. the newer 993 is still a sweet deck though.
one thing i can say is that, you can't go wrong either way. they will both perform.

I would stay the course with the Eclipse Nick. I is a rock solid cd player. The 991 is long out of stock at Kenwood so you would be looking at a (ab)used cd player or a fleabay special anyways.

Picked up the deck today. It looks sweet and is a high gloss black. I was expecting a matte black which would have worked better with the interior. Oh well. The remote is quite a lot smaller than I thought it looked like it would be. The deck seems like it is well built. The buttons are firm and the face-plate is nicely damped. I am going to get it put in on Monday (it seems the older I get the less I do myself). I can give an update Monday night to let you know how it sounds. I am going to be using the internal amps so I hope they sound decent.
