Long-Term System Planning
^^^^I think you just proved a good point about planning. You researched, you built a plan, you exicuted the plan, and then you re-evaluated the plan. It's called a feedback loop in management, and it's a very powerful tool for constant improvement.
It was good to hear from an SPLer.

Nice thread
Funny, I seem to remember telling PEI that he should complete at least one system to the finish point............ one system that is 100% complete. It's fun to be a rolling test lab, but before doing such a thing, everyone should completely FINISH a system to the end. It's surprising the things that creep up when trying to get something to 100% installed/tuned/done.

i do not think that any one here is being negative, but rather trying to state the fact that once all your planning or anybodys plannig, gets done and completed, yuo will have the opportunity to enjoy the fruits of your labour.
I have never completed anything when it comes to my car audio system except for the deck being installed fully, and thats the fun in it.
I made the mdf rings for my subs, have them installed, but havn't glassed over the box yet to smooth the edges and get it looking nice..
I made my amp rack, but since im thinking on replacing the amp with a smaller sized amp havn't finished it.
I feel if i complete my system i will lose interest in it, so yes my system is a rolling testbed aswell.

Adam, finish it. You will thank yourself, or more likely your ears will!
You put so much work and effort into it, it would be foolish to stop now. Go and give it your best and see what you learn in the process.
I have been slowly peicing together the stereo I have always wanted, it is not much by anyone's standards, but to me its what I wanted. I still have a ways to go, but so far I am happy. I get new ideass every day.
Just never give up, you have shown me that!

I planned for a long time to put my system together. After getting everything I decided I wanted to change certain things as components wouldnt fit, found a good deal on what i felt was an upgrade or just tired of what i have.
It is hard to have a complete system as something always changes. It seems like something either breaks, needs replacing or can be replaced with something better fairly cheap.
My system personally I ran with a single side of my front stage for awhile with my subs installed. Then my sub amp blew and my 4" mids needed to be replaced. Now i have a complete front stage but i think my tweets need replacing. It gets discouraging after you put so much money into something and it gets messed up or something breaks.
I would suggest getting the system to the point where you can have your highs, mid-range, midbass and lows all in the car at once and see if it sounds how you like. If it doesnt then start swapping pieces in and out until your happy with the finished product.
