Well it's obvious that it couldn't possibly sound anywhere near the W7, it's not like MTX has the engineering talent to design it or the facilities to manufacture it! Why is it so hard for people to wait till they hear it before making assumptions. The only place anybody has really heard it has been in a demo car tuned for booming.
Tyler you said it best with some paraphrasing. People need to stop bashing the 9500 because of its manufacturer, whatever it may be, and actually go listen to one, and realize why it compares to what it does.

When A customer goes into a store, unless educated it is very difficult for him to subjectivly shop for products. Rockford has had a reputation for building excellent quality products for years. The name brand is powerfull. When a customer looks at a number rated on the amplifiers that 900watts, when it is actually 300 watts it is not helping him properly make his decision. Nothing wrong with rating the amp at 300 watts.
I guess the point is that this theory of marketing is not helping us make proper decisions when buying our car audio stuff, and Name brand gets into play way too much.
When the 9500 comes out make your own opinions. Dont say the JL will easily be a better sounding sub when knowone has even heard the 9500 to even make an opinion.
I just see those adds as a side by side comparison of value.

Then again I run MTX amps. You may now bash me.

To make a long story short, comparisons are fanastic and very useful to everyone if you do one in a truthful way comparing every spec and feature. If you choose to do it any other way then you are intentionally misleading customers and most likely trying to cover up short comings.
