To much power?
Here is the set up I am looking at getting from a guy in town:
Subs:
Two 12" JL Audio W3v2 4 Ohm
Amp:
Memphis
16-ST1000D
MClass D
RMS Power 4 ohm (Watts) 300 x 1
RMS Power 2 ohm (Watts) 600 x 1
1 Ohm Power 1100 x 1
The guy hhad the system running at 1 ohm, therefore 55o watts per sub. Do you think that this is to much power for these subs? Also he wants $1000 for the setup does that sound fair?
Thanks

the w3's will handle 550 watts no prob ..........
I believe the subs are worth about 300 each new, amp is worth about 700 new (could be wrong , check and confim prices)
so that's 1300 or so new .......... most gear goes for about 1/2-2/3 used so 650-850 would be a fair price depending on condition
if he's got a box and wiring and stuff too then it would be worth more
so if he's got a well built box for the subs and it's all in real good condition then I'd say it's worth a grand or so

I had a single 10W3 v.2 sub, and I can assure you, they are very solid subwoofers. Really no such thing as too much power, so long as it is used in moderation.
If you start hearing poping and smell burning, turn it down a notch
That price sounds reasonable for what you'll get. Those Memphis amps are nice. Offer him $900, see what he says
