Stuff like that makes me cringe... I'm happy to see you were able to save the finger. If you are going to be using a router more often, check this accessory tool out. Fukuda (and friends) designed products are top notch.

[QUOTE=if you place the tape where the two pieces would separate either piece will not move and your hands are securely on the router at all times. pry the pieces apart when you are done and remove the tape..
leevalley.com sells a double sided tape called "double sided turning tape" product #25U03.11 for 1" x 75' roll for $10.90 or a 2" x 75' roll for $20.50 (25U03.12) this stuff is great. its a pressure tape that hold like hell but comes apart easily by twisting motion and leaves no residue on the wood surface. check it out.

$10.90 to save a finger is well worth the investment guys..

thnx for letting me rant![/QUOTE]

not to sound like a jack *** but, you never use your hands to hold material close to any moving type of blade/bit..
take router out of the table and double side tape the material to a piece of scrap and use a circle jig. if you place the tape where the two pieces would separate either piece will not move and your hands are securely on the router at all times. pry the pieces apart when you are done and remove the tape..

Thanks for the advice. They where the smallest rings I've ever made. And yes, it scared me every moment of the 12 rings I had to make. I'm gonna make these ones count. Not planning that stunt again anytime soon. Kinda liking all my fingers attached.

here is the best part i was using a router table with a circle jig, but things happen. And as Bart said, i two know people with years and years of experience and still lose a finger. I have been build stuff like this for years, its one of those things that happen.

Hows the router? I would have thrown mine through a concrete wall if that had happened to me and then beat it to death with a roll of 0 gauge.

OUCH !!!, now that's bad !.

Having a bunch of power tools, router included, including a Dremel and several X-Acto knives for model work, I can always tell to you to work safely around tools, especially tools with sharp edges, but then it does happen.
