OK, I'll bite....can someone explain to me when or how the load is dropping to .5ohm in the first place??

Impedance rise with frequency and power I know, but this is the first I've heard of a drop like that.....

Having looked up the manual for the amp, the difference in output from 2 - 1ohms is negligible....that to me says run it at 2ohms and the amp will be happy and keep going for a long time......

OP, if I was you I'd get the new one under warranty and grab a second one for the second sub....definitely cheaper than getting a larger .5 or 1ohm stable amp and you will have plenty of reliable power for your subs.....

the installer said it might be the voice coils themselves, but i dont know how if theyre 4 ohms each their 4 ohms each. it might be a problem with my eletrical system and a power surge or something? but i see what everybodys getting at. im going to get a the warranty replacement for the time being while i get another larger amp i can run at 2 ohms. thanks people

What I am reading and figure he is doing is this. He blew his second Kenwood, I assume that this means second time and not second of two amps. He has 2 4 ohm DVC subs wired down to 1 ohm. Probably running the amp bridged at 1 ohm. As I stated before... too low for daily.

The installer wasnt able to tell you what the coils were? Or tell you if you have electrical problems? I would reconsider the installer.

A larger amp you can run at 2ohms won't help.....if you're going to go larger get an amp that can run both subs at either 4 or 1ohm mono at a minimum of 1,500Wrms....otherwise you won't hear any improvement.....

A second KAC-9104D is probably your cheapest option to get you up over 1,500Wrms total.....and having a pair of amps for your subs looks cooler anyways.....

I would also have that installer check the coils (or do it yourself).....if one is fried it could be contributing to the problems you're having and should be covered under warranty.....

the amp is a mono subwoofer amp so its not bridged. and this is my second amp to blow, i blew the first one i bought, then the second one that was the replacement, im on to number 3 now. i think ill just wire it to 2 ohms to get the most output for now, and maybe pick up a second one. do i need to get another power cable or can i split the one i already have? if i get a second amp i can put it in myself and not have to deal with the installer. would i need a new ground as well or can i use the same one as the other amp?

get yourself a distribution block to split the power supply.

your best bet is another of the same amp. they are pretty efficient amps, so it won't be a huge strain on your electrical.

you can either get a huge amp and run them at 1 or 4ohm.
or you can get another kenwood and run one amp to each at 2ohm for 900rms per sub.

if you have a choice with those kenwoods, there is no point in running them at 1ohm. they put out the same amount of power at 2ohm.

what i think im gonna do, is see if i can downgrade to the 8105, its the step down from the 9104, and run two of those to get 500rms to each sub at 2 ohms, instead of giving it 900rms a piece cuz thats quite a bit for 1000 watt peak subs

Stick with the 9104s.....your subs will appreciate the difference between the 500W from them loafing along at 1/2 power and the 8105s at full blast.

Careful setting of the gains will ensure the long-term survival of the subs, after that it's up to the hand on the volume ****.....
