Whatever you decide to go with, check for prices, I know shops need to make money, but there's a limit to how big of a sucker you can be, paying twice the cost....Don't be afraid to ask, post in few forums, not only canadian, try others aswell, see what they got to say, I'd start with describing what kind of music you like, what you want to accomplish, what kind of sound you like, harsh, in your face or smooth ? I read somewhere that Boston Pro's are more on the harsher sound, research, research....

Brian is correct on one level. If the prefab box is a close enough match to the subs needs, then it is pointless to spend the $ to have one built. Exceptions to this though could be, the prefab box may not be of the same quality of build (read as poor glue joints, a little low on the thickness etc), it may not allow you to maximize the area in your vehicle by building the box to suit both the needs of the sub(s) and the trunk. Lets say that you wanted to rip your ears off with bass response, a prefab box just is not going to cut it. If we dropped a big sub in there and gave it the power it needed to do it's job, there would be no way that the prefab would be able to hold up on a continual basis without some added reinforcement right from the start. Are there good prefabs out there, yes there are and we sometimes use them as well. That said though, the box is a highly important part of the equation when it comes to bass, I would recommend that you spend a little extra on the box and have one built.

Why Morden, I have worked with Jeff before. I have sent business to him before as well. Being outside of the city he is a little easier on the pocketbook as well. Nothing against Brian Reimer, he has pulled together a great package for you and I am sure it would do just fine. I am going to start to work up a system for you as well. Let me know what your goals in the system are, that is the place to start. Things you do or do not want.
My cell number is (204) 887-6468.

I am not on MSN.

My goals...

I want a great sounding system, and am willing to spend some money on it. That said, I know the "sky is the limit" when it comes to sound equipment. What I am looking for is good quality equipment that sounds great but is not overkill. Like I mentioned, I am willing to spend as much as $4,500, but would be thrilled if I could get what I am looking for at less. I listen to a wide variety of music but with a definite leaning toward beat heavy stuff. As such, I want lots of bass power, thus two 12" subs with lots of power. I am going with 12" vs. 10" having been assured by multiple sales people that I can still get a nice tight, snappy bass sound with 12" and don't need to drop to a 10" to get it. I love powerful rich bass, but I hate sloppy sounding bass that sounds like it is delayed.

That said, I still like a crystal clear high-end which is why I am willing to invest in good quality components for the front of the car that are driven by a good quality amp.

I am sure you've heard all this before... "I want awesome tight bass, crystal clear optics, a great overall sounding system, all at a reasonable price!" Sorry!

I recently installed a Pioneer AVIC-U310BT deck before I realized 4V preout is important. That is why I am willing to upgrade to the AVH-P4200. I don't care about bluetooth, and I am planning to probably use an iPad for my in-car navigation anyway, so losing nav and bluetooth switching from the AVIC to the AVH doesn't bother me if it means better sound quality due to switching up from 2V to 4V pre-outs.

Let me know what else you need from me.

Mark

I have a major concern for your goals, one that I did not see addressed properly in the original estimates. It is all well and good to have these monster subs and amps capable of removing womens clothing but when it comes time for your tiny little alternator in your car to power a system to this level, are you fully prepared to invest into the new alternator, wiring and battery that are going to be required for a system of this calibre to even start to work properly?

Would one good 12" sub also suffice or are you set on two as well?

If your not going to enter comps then a custom box is pretty much useless. Save the money and buy a box if you just want some great bass. Now if you want insane bass that rattle houses then I would suggest to try a few more dealers until one of them starts to talk about "ohms and hz" even if you have NO idea what he is talking about pretend that you do. Actually if you look around this site long enough you will figure it out. Then if you do that they might figure you know what things cost and give you a few little discounts and also they will respect you more and might give a few free hours of installation.

BUT if you just wan a normal system just louder then stock then I would have to say a mix and match of both sounds better to me. I dont see the point of them offering a custom box? (to me sounds like they were adding more just to get the most they can out of you). Plus researching and see what brands you like. JL Audio is a lot better known then Boston.

But in my opinion (I know I will get bashed for this) but I find double din cd players goofy looking. But thats my opinion. Of course double din will be more expensive because they are touch screen. Now do you really want one of those? If not the Pioneer is a good brand.

But I would deff ask more people on here as its thier life. I am just a 19 year old who likes to throw some money at it whenever I get some extra cash and I am no where near an expect.
