i dont think those are really worth the price they sold for, maybe $100 tops. Those are the first ever L7's from like 10 years ago. expect a broken coil there.

There you go, see. Yuli thinks there's probably a ****ed coil so, you just saved yourself a pain.

Gotta ask, Father Yuli? Priest or a father ;-) Just wondering.

What do you recommend for non rap, mostly rock and metal??

This made me giggle..

If your looking for a balance between bump and "SQ" on a relatively lean budget look at Pioneer.

If you've got the money to blow and you want the "overpriced but still really nice stuff" look at JL

As for SQ.. I like the FI Q

No comment on pure SPL subs

I think i read you mainly listen metal music? I would suggest a single 12" alpine type-r in a ported box. ~1.2ft^3 @ 30-35hz. This is what I'm running and I couldn't be happier. It still sounds good with heavy bass music like techno, while keeping the muddy sound away that you typically get with dual kick drums from metal music. I use to use 2 12's rockford fosgate in large a ported box; sounded great for heavy bass but it was definitely muddy sounding when listening to metal.

The best thing you can do if you listen to metal is the front stage. Get lots of power up there. Metal is almost all mid bass (80-100hz+) Lots of sound deadener in the doors (both inner and outer skins of the door to make a 'sealed enclosure') really brings the music to life.
I run a set of 6.5" Morel HYBRID OVATION with a MBquart DSC4125 bridged at 500WRMS x2 @4homs. You can definitely get away with less power, I have the amp turned down a fair bit. Doing this will be better then adding a sub IMO for this type of music.
