Another shop is giving one of our customer's the run around over warrantying a type X. They won't warranty it because he got the box from up. They are insisting that the box is way way too small and that's why the spyder seperated from the basket..

Anyways.. I need to know the displacement of a 12" type X. Unless it's well over 1cu my box is in Alpine's recomended encolsure size

Sealed enclosure i assume?

Its impossible to damage a sub from having to small of a sealed box. (unless you over power it, but that wont cause the spyder to seperate)

Spyder can only seperate from over excursion, or manufacture defect.

Give the alpine rep a call.

i dont know the displacement, but couldnt you find a box, fill it with packing peanuts, find size. then empty the box, put the sub in, then fill the remander with peanuts, - the size with the sub from the size without the sub= displacement

just a thought...

Well then! My box is well within spec. Turns out there is another side to the story.

The customer bought 2 12" Xs from a private sale. The seller claimed they were a month old and that he was the original owner. When our customer went to bring one in for warranty he found out that he was the third owner and they were way older than a month. Turns out the seller knew BOTH subs were hooped, that's why he was selling them.

its too bad there's people out there who knowingly sell things like this.. they know they screwed them up but they pawn them off on someone else anyway. personally i couldnt do that to someone. i got ripped off once before too though, definately sucks when someone says they're selling you "something" but actually they're knowingly selling you "something else" (whether that be defects or whatever...) which isn't really what you think you're buying..

anyway, just my $0.02

I was in Natural Sound in Kitchener (authorized Alpine dealer) and he said that he really had a lot of problems with the Type X subs in sealed enclosures. He said that the Type X's really like ported enclosures, or they seem to blow. He has had a few sealed type X's blow, but has yet to see a ported type x blow.

I had a 12" Type X in my car until it was stolen. I had it in an Alpine ported box, and it sounded nice and deep, clean, and loud.

Regards,
Bryan

if he's not the purchaser there is no warranty
as in the blowing from being in a sealed box
i'd have to say go smoke another one
