need some help? New with cars. and Audio

Hello I was just wondering if you guys could answer some of my questions.
I am new to car audio don't make fun of me if my questions are stupid.

Ok i will be getting my licience and a car soon. I would like to learn how to install and audio system in my car.

like say if you have an older car do you have to totaly re-wire the car for you to be able to install better speakers.

say if you buy a new Deck unit - lets say a CD player and it says 50wats x4
does that mean you can only use speakers that are 50 watts. Or can you get a amp and attach and lets say use 150 watt speakers?

when i get my car I would like to install a pretty good car stereo. I dunno how much i wanna spend on it. Probably like 500 bucks or so. maybe less i dunno.

will that even get you a decent car audio system?

Im thinking I want 4 speakers 2 subs. and maybe like 1000-2000 watt peak power..

Im not totally sure what im talking about right now so im just typing done numbers. they can be changed by you if you think of a better idea.

I just know that i want people to here me coming.

Any suggestions/ info/ things i should know before doing installing/ things i should know.

sorry about long post..

Thanks so much!!

The only stupid question is the one that you do not ask. In my 22 years in this industy I hae lost count of the number of times that I see common questions to most people yet they are the first time for others.

Ideally in any vehicle, new wiring is a good thing, this will allow you to easily upgrade in the future as well.

Throw wattage out the window, you more than likely are looking at a number and reading what other people may have. It is far from what you may either need or should build into. The wattage claim on a head unit of 50w x 4 is a stretch of the imagination yet it is what people are led to beleive. A deck of most types is going to struggle to produce 18 watts rms of clean sound. If you want louder, then you need a outboard amplifier. A speaker will produce what you give it. If you have a 100w rms speaker and give it 20w rms, that is all you get, it most certainly can take more though (see the note about an amp and upgrading the wiring for the future).

Do you system up in stages, $500 is not that big of a budget and you will more than likely end up with crap masquerading as car stereo gear should you try and do it all for this price. Start simple, get a solid cd player and solid front speakers, then add the rear speakers, then add a amp, then add a sub or subs. One step at a time and you will end up with a good stereo that you have not thrown money out the window in order to get.

hi =) for your gfirst question you dont have to re wire the whole car yo have to find a wire harness the fits your speaker. Then you cut off the old harness and solder the new one on.=)

second question. If the deck says 50 watts that means the deck takes up 50 watts. You can use any watt speaker with any deck. You can attach the car speakers to a amp to make to make it sound louder and better =)but you dont have to =)

third question.it might cost you more but i dont know. You need to buy subwoofers, box(you can always build one) 4 speakers, amp, amp wiring, and a deck might cost you around 500-800 depends on what you buy =)

hope this helps

Dont buy anything until you have have the vehicle. Nothing worse than buying things to find out that they do not fit....
