Need some help.... please

I just want to apologize ahead of time if this post breaks any rules or excludes information, etc.

I have an 2004 Nissan Maxima SE which I have owned for about a year. The stereo is stock and has suited my needs. About two (maybe three) weeks ago the front left speaker started cutting out occasionally. It will sometimes be completely off, usually be a lot less than the right side, and occasionally appear have the same power. Does anyone have any possible idea of what could be the problem?

If it helps, I have been told it is not the amp.

Thanks in advance!

The speaker is 6 years old or more, mounted in a door. I would look at the speaker itself as being the problem first off. Swap the speakers side to side up front. If the problem moves to the other door, it is indeed the speaker. If it stays on the same side then it is a amplifier or head unit issue.

There is also a small chance that it is the speaker wiring from the amp to the speaker. As the drivers door is the one that is opened most ofter, sometimes the wires break down in one spot where they are in motion. Run a new temporary speaker line from the amp / head to the speaker and try again.
