Need Some Input

Hi Guys,
I have a set of Alpine SPX-177A components installed in my ride for about a year. I've now decided to ditch the passive x-overs and go active with my Alpine 7897 deck. I have a Concept 4 channel amp rated at 80watts rms x 4 to power them. My question is, should I use the HP/LP x-overs on the amp and use the digital x-overs on my deck, or should I run a full range signal on my amp and only use the digital x-overs on my deck?
Will 80watts rms be too much for the tweets?

Does your deck have a bandpass crossover for the mid? Does the HP crossover go high enough for your tweets? If so you don't need to use the one in your amp.
Tweeters don't need a lot of power to get loud. Use the gain accordingly and you will be fine.

the alpine cda7897 has 6,12,18,or 24 db /octave digital xovers in it, there is no need to use the analog x-over in your amp for 2 reasons, a) analog o-overs cause unneseccary phase shift, digital doesnt, and b)using the 24db/oct x-over in your cd player makes the one in your amp redundant and useless, i have ran the 7897 in 3 channel mode mant times and its great, very wise decision to go active on your midrange and tweeters, passives are the devil and should be avoided whenever possible, with the 7897 in 3 channel you will be able to time align the midrange and tweeter individually

Umm, all high end home speakers use passives, passives can be better than active, it's just no one takes the time to do them right, and changing anything is a real bitch.
There was a big discussion on Carsound about how passives are actually better than active. It really just depends on the application.

in the car audio environment, active x-over are far superior, due to flexibility and phase shift, and were not talking about home speakers were talking about speakers of any type applied in the car environment, if you want to change your passives 100 times to get it right, have ater, i believe on car sound rc said active was the best in car. your right it does depend on the application, the application here is in cars, where active is superior
