Need suggestions for sub + amp

Hey all, newbie here on the site. Looking for suggestions on a sub (and enclosure) + amp combo, taking into consideration the following:

- car is a 2005 Corolla
- HU is currently a Pioneer DEH-P9400BH (4V RCA pre-out)
- looking to do about 300W to 500W
- currently have 8awg run from the battery to the trunk; I assume that this is fine for what I'm looking for or should I upgrade this to 4 awg?
- single sub is preferred since I don't want to sacrifice a ton of real estate, but would be willing to do dual subs if someone explains their effect on sound quality and why it would be better to go that route
- not afraid to spend some money on this but also don't want to break the bank (we'll say $500 or so)

If you need any more info, just let me know.

Thanks in advance!

Okay, some additional thoughts on this after doing some looking (unfortunately, can't edit the post anymore):

I'm looking to do dual subwoofers, but need help picking out which particular set and an amp that will do 500W RMS.

The possible subs:

- Polk db1040DVC (4ohm DVC) - Polk Audio db1040DVC 10" Dual 4-ohm Voice Coil Component Sub, with the coils wired in series, speakers in parallel needing a 4ohm amp
- Polk db1040SVC (4ohm SVC) - Polk Audio db1040 10" 4-ohm Component Subwoofer, with the speakers in parallel needing a 2ohm amp
- Kicker 10CVR102 (2ohm DVC) - Kicker 10CVR102 10" 2-ohm Component Subwoofer, with the coils wired in series, speakers in parallel needing a 2ohm amp

As a sidenote, is it worth going DVC if I plan on doing dual subs, or should I just look at the SDV's? And will there be any major change in the SQ going from 4ohm to 2ohm (I realize that the SQ decreases, but how noticeable is it)?

I've rewired the run to 4awg, so power is no longer an issue for a 500W system. Also looking at duals now that I've done some looking and seen that the options for a single 500W sub aren't quite what I'm looking at.

no you wont hear a difference in ohms with a well designed amp. i would follow the recommended enclosure from the manufacture
i would go for one of these amps Mono Block

and one of these subs SPEAKERS - X SERIES - Fi Car Audio Store or
Sub Woofers - SoundSolutionsAudio - GCON - SSA STORE
