New to the forums, and car audio

Hey everyone, I am pretty new to car audio, and extremely new to these forums. I just thought I would come in here and take in some suggestions on what type of equipment I should put into my car.

I have a basic layout of what I would like to do, but, I'm not too sure what brand/model of speakers to fill my design with. What I have now, is a JL 12W7 in the trunk, being under-powered by a 500w Sony (I think) amp that I got when I bought the sub 2nd-hand. I am obviously going to be re-placing the amp with something more appropriate. I have 2 unknown brand and model 6" speakers in the door I will be replacing, and 2 6x9's in the back to replace as well. (I think the 6" and 6x9's are pioneer or something maybe...)

My car is a '99 Pontiac Sunfire GT. Original Battery, and a replacement alternator, but not to upgrade amperage or anything like that. The old one just burned out or whatever. I am not sure if what I plan on doing is even feasable, so I would like to know if you all think it would be or not.

I want to add a second 12W7 to the trunk, and get a new box made to hold both the subs. I want to put 2 6x9's in the trunk in the rear corners. Take out the spare wheel, and put a second battery or a capacator in there if one'll fit. Now for the part I am not too sure if it is feasable or not.

I would like to completely remove the back seat, and put in a wall about 3-5" away from the rear "dash" to allow for good airflow. In the wall, I am looking to have 3 rows of stuff. The bottom and top rows I would like 3 6x9's. In the middle, I would like 1 6x9 on either side, and either a 10" or 12" W7.

Because I highly doubt it possible to run this all at the same time with the limited space a Sunfire has for added power supplies, I was thinking, that if it were possible to run the power through a switch that allows me to use the wall, or the trunk plus the basic on-board speakers to do that. If I were able to get enough power to run it all at once, that would wicked.

Any comments or flaws on the plan? Any suggestions for what type of speakers I should go for? I would like the lows to be balanced with the mid's and highs. I hate only being able to hear the bass and not the song. Also, what kind of things can you suggest for rattle-deadening.

I think that should just about cover it. I hope I didn't miss anything.

well, your idea is a little overkill. really one w7 should be more than enough for a sunfire. as for the extra 6x9's its really a waste and the extra mismatched sub would be too. I say take that money, upgrade your sub amp ot something more appropriate, and get a good set of components for the front, and a 2 channel amp to power them. Much more cost effective and will sound great.

Maybe i missed it but what head unit are you using?

Stop the bus and get off, you are on the wrong one. So many faults with your plan of attack that the Japanese would have won the war. One W7 is the only thing known to have kicked Chuck Norris's a$$. Two subs = death by bass. With one W7 in the proper custom built box is going to leave you with copious amounts of great sounding bass response, more than you are hoping for probably. There is no need to remove the back seat at all. You are going to need to throw some power at the front speakers primarily, then the rear in order for the system to balance itself out so that you can actually hear the music over the sonic bliss that the W7 produces.

For front speakers, good component speakers are going to be a must have or should have at the minimum. In the rear, keep it simple with a set of 6x9's in the stock locations and call it a day back there. Concentrate 100% on the front speakers. You don't go to a concert and have the guy sing from behind you all night. Rear speakers is personal preference. Some people are going to say do not put them in, others are going to say put them in. I like rear speakers in my car, obviously I would put them in, again though, keep it to a simple but appropriate speaker only.

You can have a trunk full of batteries to your hearts desire to run the system but it is a total waste if the alternator cannot recharge them. The alternator runs the whole show. You are going to need proper wiring front to back, the BIG 3 upgrade and start with a darn good primary battery. Then test the system. If you are having problems supplying current, you need to address the alternator and not throw more batteries and caps at it.

A power supply that can supply 100 amps of current is not cheap by any means, Cascade Audio makes some fine ones. I would rather see you throw that $ into a better alternator though, probably cheaper at the same time.

Anyways, you need a new plan, you are destined for failure should you continue on with the one you have now. Nothing wrong with failure as you will always learn from it, the only part that sucks is that you waste a boatload of time and money and then have to do it all again to make it right.

Thanks for all the advice. It all makes my idea sound a lot more stupid than it sounded in my head. Sorry for the late reply as well, my internet crashed on me shortly after I posted the thread. I just got it working again finally.

When I have some ideas on what kind of speakers I want to install, I will ask what you all think of them.
