I fully understand how a factory radio works,some adjust with a signal from the PCM and others with a mic for road noise,but not a sony headunit with built in x-overs!!!!

oops - 'theboy' just got owned

Alpine offered it back in the day on the 7525 cassette deck. As well, Pioneer, JVC, and others have offered it in one form or another, either by mic or speed compensated.

Effiency plays a large factor in a subwoofer. It will take power to make it move. Take for example, the TI Elite, this is also ineffiecent just like the Type X. If the TI elite is not fed the power it want's it will not sound "proper" or "good". Meaning....the subwoofer will not perform as it should with say 1/2 the power it wants, same goes for the Type X. A good example of an efficient subwoofer is an IDMax, as well as the Xenon. The IDMax wants 1000RMS, but will perform quite nicely with 500RMS (half it's rated), the xenon will also perform very nicely with 250RMS (half).

Efficiency plays a large role if you are on a budget, or don't plan on upgrading your eletrical system.

so, if i take 500 watts and apply it to a 10" woofer that is 85db efficient and take that same 500 watts and and apply is to a woofer that is 88db efficient, will the 88db efficient woofer play 3db lounder, if so please explain. as well does the freq being played play a large role in the efficiency of a subwoofer. in other words is a woofer that is 88db efficient, the same at 75hz as it is at 25hz. how does the woofers efficincy get afected by different alignmnets like sealed ported and bandpass. a xenon10" is 83db efficient, an alpine typex 10" is 81 db efficient, does that mean that the pg woofer will go louder that a typex with the same power
