New from Nova Scotia (NEED HELP)

Hello,

I'm new to car audio. I have never had after market audio gear in any vehicle.
I'm 26 and own a 2007 Ford FX4 F150 Super Crew Pickup.
I'm not looking to be heard 3 blocks away but I do want the traffic around me to know what i'm listening to. I do enjoy base but not ridiculous base.
I'm not 16 anymore so pounding my stereo into oblivion with the top of the line gear is of no interest to me.
I want to spend my money on quality gear that will last under moderate use.
I stopped in at a local shop today and got some pointers and a quote for a setup that will suit my needs.

Here is what was recommended to me today: (I do want opinions please)

Atrend Single 10" F150 under seat mount sub box
Hertz ES 250D Subwoofer 500 watt
Hertz ESK 165L 2 way system 200 watt (Front)
Hertz ECX 570 2 way coax 140 watt (Rear)
Re-Q 5 channel (needed to use my current stock deck)
Rux **** (Base control)
MRX V60 5 channel amp
4 gauge wiring
All supplied and installed for $2,200 taxes in. Is this too much? and is this a good system for someone who doesn't want to be the baddest on the block but does want to feel the music?

Thanks for any input...

Did the shop ever mentioned about sound deadening?

This is better than stock, but i don't think it's a system that will satisfy your need to feel the music.

1st, the Hertz ESK is not that great(specially if you like to crank it from what i read)
2nd, i wouldnt put speaker in the back, get that money and invest on a better set for front
3rd, that amp won't have enough power... find a 2x150 amp for front and a 500w amp for the sub.

My truck is a full 4 door and quite often I have passengers so all 4 speakers would be much better for me I think. I would rather have the full sound instead of a dead back seat for my passengers. I see what your saying though. Your saying it's better to put the money from the back speakers into upgrading the front speakers to something better than the Hertz ESK 165L two way system.
I thought the ESK 165L system sounded very nice in the show room. I do understand sound in a showroom is different when it's in a small space but I really thought they sounded quite nice? What should I get instead of these?

Now I should be looking at purchasing 2 amps? Man I thought $2,200 was nuts of me to be considering but this sounds like it's going to cost me the price of a decent car to put some tunes in my truck...
So the MRX V60 5 channel amp will not sufficiently power a Hertz ES 250D Subwoofer, 2 Hertz ESK 165L mids, and 2 Hertz ECX 570 mids?
I thought the guy I was talking to knew what he was talking about... This shop has been around for 26 years so I thought they would point me in the right direction. Do you think they are just trying to sell me some crap and get my $2,200? I really don't want to spend over $2,000 with $2,200 being my top dollar towards this venture. What will be my best sound quality for my truck for around $2,000?

Thanks.

firstly welcome to the board. justinator
go talk to as many shops in ur area as u can find and listen to every speakers and subs they have. bring ur own music on a usb or better a cd. almost all hu have mp3 capabilities and most have a usb port. find the speakers that when listened to make u think wow those are what i want in my ride. this is ur ride not theirs. every one has different ears and hear things differently.
this is the first thing ur should do even before u decide on a price. this is what should help u decide on a price. u can always leave the sub out and add it later when u have more money to spend.
yhe point here is simple: get what u really like from what u have heard and not what the store says is good for u. u will not be happy with "they sounded ok" in ur ride. trust me.
also there are lots of used stuff for sale on here that will make it much easier on the pocket book but will allow u to make a considerable step up in quality without the price.

what ever u decide, good luck and dont rush into a sale until u are ready and confident

Dan

Thanks for the input.
After that being said... My previous questions still remain unanswered. Could anyone give me a little insight towards the combination of this gear and it's value...

Thanks to thous who already answered and gave their insight.

I would upgrade the front comps to the hsk line, leave your oem speakers in the rear for now, and get a more powerful amp like the pdx 5 or separate amps if you don't mind more wiring and more space allocated for the amps. I like rear sound as well, so eventually you can upgrade your oem speakers, but get the best front set up and enough power that you can build around...and shop around or online if you're comfortable with that as most of that equipment can be had online for nearly half the price.

I too would leave the rear speakers stock and running off of the deck power and maybe spend that money on a higher end component set for up front.

I find most 5ch amps have a wimpy sub channel. You should be able to switch to a 4ch amp for same money. Bridge two channels for the sub, and the other two for the fronts.

Nova Scotia is not tech friendly when it comes to car audio.
I live an hour away from Halifax and I have to shop around like crazy.

I don't know where you went but shop around and get quotes for both gear and installation!

Atlantic Car Stereo , Unique Car Audio LTD, Hall's Car Stereo, Top Down Car Audio are all shops in your location.
