New subs - your input requested
Hey guys,
I'm looking to upgrade my subs. Your opinions would be greatly appreciated.
HAVE:
- Clarion DPX1001.1 (stock 130A alternator if I'm not mistaken)
- CDT 6.5" comps (CF series, 560 xovers)
- Orion 8004 for frontstage (possibly overkill, but better too much)
- Clarion 845 HU
- Audiocontrol 4.1
- 2 x 12" Kicker comps (150 rms ea, 8 ohms each in parallel)
WANT:
- Looking for 2 x 12's or maybe 2 x 10's now to complement the system. I 'd like them to sit in a custom sealed box in my 03 Concorde. I'm also shopping for an Orion 1200d to replace the Clarion, so this is a factor (400 wrms at 4 ohms, 700 wrms at 2 ohms, 1200 wrms at 1 ohm).
What I'd like to have, in terms of bass, is:
- deep, rich, articulate, good response, (all the usual things most SQ folks want I suppose), but with the ability to run loud and clear, small(ish) box size (approx. 1 cu ft. ea) and something around 250-300 rms each I think. Bang for buck basically. Budget? I'd like to keep it under $400.
Cheers,
Jeremy

A pair of RE SR10s or SR12s hits deep, low and powerful and handle the power your planning to throw at it.
It's falls around your budget. Check with a US Amps/RE Audio dealer and i'm sure they could hook you up with gear that'll fit into your budget.

I am looking at RE stuff actually - seems to be a pretty safe bet that I'd be happy with it. I was also looking at Eclipse. There's also a set of Arc Audio KAR's (10") in the for sale forum here. I'm wondering if they'd fit the bill.

I cannot recommend the Eclipse subs at all (sorry Westec) until the CDN distributor will honour a warranty on them like all of their competitors will. The aluminum cone drivers are great mind you but if you blow one, nada, zip, zilch for warranty the first time around wheras all the competitors will give you a once or even twice until they say no (unless it is a blatent case of abuse). Definitely consider the RE subs.

Since no one has heard RD subs except for Low-Hz cramming them down people's throats and because they will likely be a rather blah product (much like Atomic), I don't understand why they are being recommended.
Stick with RE Audio or another proven product.

For the most part I normally agree with you, however not sure if you have tried any of there products and at nearly half the cost of RE or DD they are a great choice. The Studio and Classic are great SQ drivers built by SJA which yes is responsible for the Atomic line up. But there was nothing wrong with their gear IMO
I know you have chosen but another great sub to look at that has been used and proven would be SI as well
