New System - Fail
Honestly, if the dude had straight up said. "hey, that's some seriously powerfull stuff your installing. If you don't add XYZ youre going to have troubles. And aftermarket speakers are designed to work with a sub. They have less bass to add increased sound round and clarity." I would have gone with slightly less primo speakers and added a sub/dampening materials right from the get go.

That's probably true. I went in looking for a new head unit since the stock one didn't have an ipod hookup. I was willing to upgrade in the $1500 range while I was at it. By the time they add the wiring kits, rca cables, deck harness, install fees... the bill was over 2000 and the thing isn't working properly.

Howdy Folks,
Been a while, but got a definitive answer. There was a problem with the factory wiring - in fact it was only noticeable when the door to the car was closed so the install dudes didn't find it until trouble shooting the speakers 1by1 with the car doors closed. Front driver side door specifically.
This was news to me... At some point, the new install hits the wiring block that ships with the car. In this case, somewhere around where the door meets the car body. I assumed that when new speakers are installed that all wires feeding them are replaced but that's not the case. The fix did require a new wire be fed through the door wiring block.
I decided to pick up a sub at the same time. System is pristine and clear at high volume without distortion and smooth bass ranges that don't overpower the speakers. Went with a kicker 10" closed box powered by a mono amp from the head units dedicated pre-out.
Quite pleased with the end result. Particularly satisfied with the alpine amps that apparently have good built in protections that saved my *** during figuring out wtf was going. The Hertz component speakers in the front have amazing sound range and clarity (the Hertz speakers made the alpine type Rs I went in to check out originally sounds like junk by comparison - which says a lot) and the kicker sub produces smooth bass ranges.
