Newbie - buying advice needed !
Hi All,
I'm only learning about all the in's and out's of car audio at the mo and need some advice.
I drive a Peugeot 106 Gti 3 dr hatch and would like to update the sound system. I want better quality and a bit more bass. I have a budet of about $750 (500 euro)
What i was gonna do was replace the HU, possibly with a Panasonic CQ-C7303N.
Then replace the factory 13cm (front) & 10cm (rear) speakers with some entry level speakers from JBL or Infinity.
I was then going to install a pair of 6x9's on the rear shelf and have this hooked up to an amp.
Am i going about his all wrong, any advise greatly appreciated !

i don't know the factory head unit in that vehicle but if it is amplified u may not see alot of results from replacing factory speakers with entrylevel gear! how ever if there in only a deck in the vehicle is it tape or cd?
if it is tape u most certaily will see good results with most any brand name aftermaket cd player!
if it is a stock cd player the changes will not be as dramatic but will be there!
as for the speaker change, you will have to be carful that the install is good as u can make many euro vehicles sound like poo if the install is poo. (ie not properly sealed etc.....)
when it comes to the sub bass u will want to do one of two things. do all of the above and just use a decent amp controlled by the rca's on the after market head unit with a 10" sub in a sealed box. hard to mess this combo up!
or if it turns out that u have an amplified system and the u choose to stay with the factory head unit and speakers and u just want a little more bump cause the other way is just too much work and too expensive for u; then u can use a decent amp with high level imputs (as long as your speakers r full range) and power a single 10 in a sealed box once again and that will make your car sound much warmer!
have fun man!

The whole thing is what YOU want to get out of the system.
With your budget - it sounds like you are going in the right direction.
However, I would skip the 6x9's and get a 10" subwoofer - only because I personally dont like people cutting the rear shelf and putting in speakers. To me - it looks messy when you open the hatch - plus the rear shelf is intended to act more like a cover than a parcel shelf - they are made of flimsy particle board.
And as mentioned before - have fun with it.

^^ yeah, I agree, if you're thinking of putting 6x9's in a hatch cover...don't do it. It gives little to no bass due to the poor front/rear seal created, and offers no structural support for large speakers. You are much better off spending the money on better speakers for your dash or doors, and a better subwoofer system.
Thanks for your help guys.
i upped my budget a bit.
i'm gonna stick with the panasonic head unit, getting a set of front 13cm components with crossovers.
getting a decent set of rear 10cms
getting a 4ch amp to run front and rear.
then as i'm not too pushed on the sub, gonna get a 10inch active subwoofer for the boot.
i'm ditching the 6x9 idea.
