noob system [sorry guys]
Hi Guys,
First post be gentle. I'm a casual car audio fan but haven't had a system installed in my vehicle since I was in high school.
I just purchased a 2008 dakota quad cab and would like to upgrade the horrible factory sound. I already own the Pioneer DEH-P5900IB hu (I actually preferred my old DEH-P6300 but wanted to upgrade to bluetooth).
A local shop (Ultimate Car Audio, Oshawa ON) has recommended the following:
replace all four door 6.5 speakers with Clarion SRQ1631
install a Clarion XR2410 4ch amplifier
install a Bazooka BT8100 behind one of the rear seats
I know it's probably not the worst setup, and probably not the best setup either. My question is in your opinion will it sound good for rock/rap music at medium volumes? I don't need to wake up the neighbourhood with volume and/or thumping just want clear mids and highs and a little low end oomph.
They quoted me $1200 out the door taxes in which I plan to negotiate downwards.

for $1200 you can get some pretty decent stuff in the used section.
as far as the gear you've chosen,
personally i'd get some hertz hsk-165 for the fronts, a single 10" IDQ, and an appropriate amp for them. possible a PDX-5?
that gear will be under 1200 and outperform the bazooka clarion stuff.

It does include install but he is charging $65/pair for installation of the speakers which I have no problem doing myself so I can save $130 on installation there. When you install an amp to power door speakers you don't have to run new speaker wire to the doors do you? Would it be stupid for me to install my hu and speakers and then take it over to a shop to do the amp for the speakers and install the sub? I really just don't like making holes in my truck or playing around with the carpet, etc. I'd rather leave that to a pro but I have no problem installing a hu or ripping off door panels and installing speakers.

Here, best way I can explain it
to clarify the speaker wire situation... The signal gets processed and is outputted to the RCA outputs and the speaker wire outputs on the back of the HU. If you are using the internal amplifier in the HU, the speaker wires from the back go directly to the speakers. Most wiring harnesses you purchase will tap directly into the vehicle's factory wiring to save time. If, in your case, you decide to externally amplify (enter the 4 ch amp, stage right) the signal will need to go to the external amp first, then to the speakers. Manufacturers have been kind enough to innovate RCA connections to make that job easier. Run the RCA's from the output on the deck (head unit, HU, whatever lol) to the external amp. From the amp, the speakers are going to need a signal, because the deck's speaker wires should be capped off and not connected to anything. Run speaker wire from the amp to the speakers and you should have noise. Make sure + is connected to + and - to - for each speaker-to-amp connection. Oh, and don't forget to crank that VOL **** all the way to the right once you're done

Check to see if you have dash speakers. If you do then a set of front component speakers are in order for you. Like most Dodge vehicles of these years, you should also be able to use a 6.75" in the front and rear. I have some great deals if that interests you as well.
A proper speaker install is going to be a complete rewire of the speakers in the vehicle. It is time is all, if you think you can do it, go for it. If you do not want to or the time to do so is not in your favour, then have someone do it for you. There is a proper way to do things, a passable way of doing things and a hack way of doing things, choose your pill wisely.
