I just bought a 12" IDMax and am going to make a ported box. My last time at Lowes and HD they cut the wood and were off a bit, which is very annoying. Anyone know of the best place to buy MDF and get wood cut? I am thinking Rona - last time they were the closest.

 

home depot does it for $1.00 a cut

 

store doesnt matter. It's all about the man operating the saw. On the other hand if anyone's using the upright saw, I'd stay away. Those things are guessing at best.

 

Like wasted911 said its the operator not the store. I have tried most of the stores around Ottawa and eventually decided I would have the store cut each dimension oversize. This way I can fit everything in my trunk and make the final cuts to size at home.

 

for my box i used my small circular saw, 2 clamps and the straightest 2x4 i could find from home depot, i clamp down the 2x4 just far enough from my cut line it acts like a straight fence for the saw, im happy with all the cuts.

 

Use a level, it is extremely straight. I use a level for doing exactly what you describe.

 

I still use a circular saw for breaking down full sheets. Make a sawboard and your cuts will be as straight any anyones.

I ended up going to Rona. By the time you get to the last pieces it was off 1/16th inch or so. I just used alot of glue and then sealed the inside with caulking, turned out ok.

The circular saw idea is really good though.
