total harmonic distortion (THD): Of a signal, the ratio of (a) the sum of the powers of all harmonic frequencies above the fundamental frequency to (b) the power of the fundamental frequency. Note 1: The THD is usually expressed in dB. Note 2: Measurements for calculating the THD are made at the output of a device under specified conditions.

Again; clipping is not a harmonic distortion

as I think about it…. I can make an argument that clipping reduces THD by limiting the amount of harmonics that can be produced

i do not buy the clipping or distortion as well
i have for warranty purpose tried to blow up a speaker so that i would not be stuck with two differnet speakers
so in order to do this
i took a 6x9 and hitched it up to a sub amp with over 3 times the rated power output then pinned the gains as well as the volume on the radio
watched it tapdance all over the floor
the funny think is i could't bake the coil
so i plugged it into the wall

i have also had customers with persay kac-729's(rated 300 rms) that run a single jl or kenwood (subs rated for 150-175 watts rms) and have no problems with baked voice coils
hitch up a kapton spl or audiobahn (rated for 300-400) and watch the smoke roll
some subs disapate heat better than others

hm my calculations come up with exactly 123.340593874503 watts rms
i can't see where you come up with thw 126.5 number

^ not sure pinhead.. I double checked my #'s and that's what I get from an amp that can make 460RMS max...

Hey DWVW, you say %10 THD isn't very audible ??
Maybe not going down the road with the windows down I guess... but as I recall 3% is on the verge of being audible in a quite setting...

To answer the burning (no pun intended) question... The sub was replaced under extended warranty (I so wanted to have it sent away for "service," but no go ). That's as much as I'll say... I'm guessing that it's probably not good business practice to discuss the details in public, so as long as everything and everyone remains anonymous, we can all point and laugh at the pics. I mean regardless of what kind of bloody distortion was present, the amp was too powerful for that sub, and had the ability to nuke it within it's RMS power ratings. I agree that most subs will take a lot more clean power than they're rated for... Hell, I ran my little Pioneer TS-W304C in ported box off my 1200.1, exceeding it's power limits by over 350 watts, and it only smelled funny once when I pelted it with a Bass Mekanik track. It still works today. But that's not really the issue, because I'm net here to say "Fosgate subs suck" or "Kenwood amps put out dirty power..." I stated right at the beginning that the sub was over-powered, and it could happen to any sub, but I just thought the pictures were funny as hell. I mean, I literally could not stop laughing for about 15 mins after popping the trunk. Anyways, y'all can continue arguing if ya want... One of you has got to be right.

amp being too powerful has nothing to do with it. Alot of you do not understand some things.

I can take a 300 W RMS amp, and burn the coil on a 500W RMS sub quite easily. If you don't believe me, get me the tools, and give me 2 hrs... I'll give you back a sub with a burnt VC .... ...and yes, clipping does have some play in it. In the end it all comes down to the user though.
