Peel and Patch - Home Depot

Ok,, so I just did some major calling around and found some of that RedZone stuff.
It is Bitumen or ashfalt based, with some butyl in it.
It has a heath factor of 0 and a high boiling or melting point!
The guy at the store said it is "supper sticky" and many people have got it for
their vehicles. all the rolls are 50 feet long,, for 4 inch wide it's $12.43,
for 6 inch wide it's $19.43 and for 9 inch wide it's 26.85
it is 40 mil thick and has a rubber backing.
Now,,, the last time I checked Brown Bread is ashfalt based with butyl in it,,
so,, what's the difference in the materials??? price???
So, I will be going to Ottawa tomorow to snag me some of this stuff.
And the guy said it hardly smells at all.

Ah - the difference there is it is on TOP of a house roof so gravity (not to mention shingles and nails) hold it in place. Try applying it to the underside of your car roof and see how long it lasts. To be fair, cheap "car audio" products don't always last so well in this situation either.
For the small premium, I'll stay with BQuiet or BrownBread.

"Support car audio brands" from a guy who works for a distributor... BIG shock there.
At the end of the day this stuff is very comparable to eDead (and others I'm sure), so why spend the extra cash for an almost identical product? Because the person who is selling it to me puts a lable on it that says "for car audio use"
"Jordy - show me a product like Cascade in any other use - that isn't made by Cascade.....they actually make the producty for Car Audio use.....and Home Audio use.....its not a sealant for a roof.
Maybe thats why I see guys with 3-4 layers of deadener / roof sealant on their trunk lids....cause you need that much for it to actually make a differance or work !!
By the time you add up the cost of the extra material you have to use....you were cheaper to buy the "original" ...proper product in the first place.
As for stuff in a car not being near flames......I've seen some pretty scary installs out there that may just cause a fire !!
To each there own........save a buck or do it right !!
.....and yeah so I stick up for my industry...so what....your'e sticking up for your descision to use the cheap stuff.

Ive also found that the foil backed asphalt rolls for roofing are very compairable to the stuff marketed for car audio.... woot for me, my buddy works at a factory where they make this stuff.... he hooked me up with a bunch of rolls of factory seconds for a few beers
Clean the panels with acetone and it will hang on the horizontal no prob... if you do run into a situation where it wont stay put or you just want to be extra sure its not going to budge apply a little contact cement to the panel before you apply the deadening....

I'll admit there are a few good products out there that stand out. Cascade is probably one of them.
But to discount the Peel n Seal type stuff just because it doesn't have "car audio" written on the label is ridiculous. It's nearly identical to other automotive products.

another alternitive to the roll on stuff id the edead v3 deadener. a bit cheaper than the others. a 1 gallon pail is supposed to deaden 50sqft. it costs like $50 cdn + shipping. I have used some of the others in the past of the roll on type, but i am going to go this route this time. its paint on stuff so i should be able to get it everywhere, and it sticks to factory panels well that like to vibe a bit. just to throw that out there. its another option.

Well,,, I have brown bread in my truck now.. on the roof in fact, and it has come loose MANY TIMES... and I've had to press it back,, now, granted, it is hanging upside down, but it is "for car audio applications"
Brown bread is no thicker than 40 mil,, which is what this RedZone is.
You know what,,, every test I see, or hear of, is how well the product, weather it is Brown Bread, Fatmat, Dynamat, Second Skin etc. will stick to panels.
I never really hear about how well a product actually stops sound waves from exiting the vehicle.
I read up on the Red Zone, and they use to use it primarily for boats, in the hulls between the fiberglass and the carpet, to:
1- strenghen the hull and
2- deaden the sound of the pounding waves on the hull.
It was also a roofing material at the time, but is now primarily roofing material, and when I phoned the company, (Resisto) they were not strangers to the fact that people use it in automobiles and boats.
Anyway,, if we take thickness, or mil,,
Fatmat is 50 mil and Canadian from ebay is $1.60 sq ft.
B-Quiet Extreme is 45 mil and Canadian from ebay is $1.20 sq ft
E-Dead is 45 mil and Canadian from ebay is $1.31 sq ft
and you can add at least $35.00 shipping for each cause of the weight.
This RedZone is 40 mil and canadian from RONA is $0.68 sq ft
so, for $1.20 sq ft, you can have 80 mil. almost twice that of the other ones.
So,, as far as building up the "non" car audio stuff to match the name brands, you get more mil for your buck!
and I know some of you are gonna answer "but it's what it's made of that counts"
